1.2 Stalling, lumpy acceleration, not starting..

  99 Clio 1.2 Grande
Hey all

Technical assistance required off some experienced persons please!

I have a T reg 1.2 8V which runs fine when cold, but when warm/hot decides to run very badly, will not accelerate cleanly (hesitates etc) and if you come to a stop, will cut out and refuses to re-start.

I don't know wether this is connected, but the car was fine before I,

a) Changed the thermostat (over-heated as the cooling fan didn't work)
b) Removed the relay for the fuel pump checking the relay for the cooling fan.

Also, sometimes the car will not deactivate the immobiliser, hot or cold, (don't have another operational key to swap with).

Can anyone shed any light? SWMBO is loosing faith with the little beast.....

Thanks for any info!
John.

John, the hot start issue sounds like a CPS and that would also account for the poor/rough running when warm also but the imob issue could be something else completely and without seeing it I couldn't offer anymore.

Hi Mick,

Thanks for the input, when I say badly, major hesitation and loss of power, also, will rev up sometimes to 3k for no reason?

Ahh, that's different then and now sounds more like a leak to the inlet track or an idle control fault which on the 1.2 units can be either stepper motor or valve controlled. Ideally though it's gonna need a proper look I'm afraid.
