1.2 track day conversion

Hi guys, I've been given a 1.2 8 valve phase 2 mk1 1999 (V) Clio

Am thinking of stripping the interior out and converting the engine to 1.6 16 valve and using it as a track day car.

Im not shy when it cxmes to engine conversions and have done a few in the past

Any thoughts on this would be great

Thanks

I'm thinking about going down the same line with my 1.2. i cant decide whether to go for a 172 or a 1.6. i reckon the 1.6 would be an easer conversion but would it be a competitive motor?

Isnt the 172 a pain to convert. Im really wanting a plug and play conversion. The car will be fully stripped out.

Both are equal conversions on the pain in the ass scale. Same needs changed for both.

At the end of the day, if its for a track car then don't go small

Yeah I'm sure it is. I think the 1.6 will be the closest to being a plug and play although i think the ecu and immobiliser will be a bugger to get right. do you know if there is meany upgrades for the 1.6 16 v engines? is there anyone on here that's done it before? I will have a look

Also the other burnig question i have. The gearbox and drive shafts the same for a 1.2 and 1.6. And what about the fueltank. Will it be ok or the lines and tank need to be changed. Thanks for all the replies.s
