1.5 DCI, 94k miles, cambelt change - water pump as well?

  Clio Mk2 DCI 68
Hey
I have been quoted off my local Renault garage in Middlesbrough £299.00 to change the cam belt aux belt. This does'nt include the water pump though. At 94k miles it would be sensible to change the pump as well I think. Sounds like a no brainer but I wanted some feedback on what you might do, and if any of you guys know how much extra a pump should cost that would be really useful.
Thanks

mine didnt cost that much to have it done. waterpump, cambelt and aux belt i got for around £100.
assuming you do a oil and filter change aswell+air filter your looking at £140-150.

laybour ontop onto of that.

should be less than your quoted

Genuine parts are still a fair but more and the water pump alone is around £60 (I'd personally only use a genuine water pump). £300 isn't bad IMO with genuine parts but if it's cheap non-type approved bits then yeah it's pricey.

Thanks for the input. The quote was from an established Renault dealer so will be using genuine renault parts. I will have a think on it.

Cheers

Yeah they will have priced using genuine parts then. You can pickup type approved belt kits for around £74 and DIY it for around £200 but sometimes you're better off paying to get it done right. It's not a bad job on the K9's but you have to remove the plastic covers in full to do the water pump which in some cases (platform dependent) also means removing the alternator or the high pressure pump/sprocket and can be tricky. I'm pretty sure the last one I priced up with both belt kits, pump, stat and coolant came to around £340 with genuine parts.

Also it's a floating bottom sprocket so make sure the crank pulley bolt is changed!

Thanks Mick, appreciate your advice. I am quite competant but as you say crank pully is likely not keyed, and having to lock everything in place, making sure the tension is spot on, getting the pump off, little room to work in etc is just asking for trouble with no experience of doing s belt on the K9K. Even though it costs a bit more peace of mind is oftern priceless. makes me laugh a bit though because I managed to do the headgasket on my old iron block saxo including coolant, oil and oil filter, new stretch bolts and skimming the head for just over £100.00.
