1.5 DCi wouldn't start

  1.5 DCi
Get up this morning, -4. Excellent. Goes to start the car, it turns over once, doesn't fire then just clicks.

So I remove the keys and try again, only to receive the same result.

Fortunately for me I was parked on a hill, and managed to bump it down the hill.

Any ideas what might be causing this to happen?

Thanks in advance...Chris.

So change the battery and hey presto?

I've read a few stories about fuel pumps shitting themselves, and injectors failing on these engines. Not really sure how to diagnose what the actual problem is.

How do I read fault codes? Can I read them on the dash with a pedal test of some sort?

Dude, battery! If it started by bumping it and then ran fine its not going to be fuel pump etc. Batteries die in this weather.

I did think battery as soon as it happened, as it's happened with my Corsa I had a few years back in the winter. Looks like original battery too so 11years use is well over what they're predicted to do anyway.

I'll get a new battery tomorrow and get it fitted, hopefully it'll be problem solved :)

Thanks for your help!

But still, out of interest, is there any way to read fault codes without a diagnostic machine?
