1.6 brake question

Right this happened today, had 2 brake hard as a car pulled out in front of me but as i was braking hard wheels did not lockup and skid.
Nearly took his front end of cus it just seemed 2 roll on (if u know what im goin on about). Take it it has got sumfin 2 do with the abs system (first car i have had it on).

You can tell if ABS is on as the pedal judders as the system releases the brakes presssure so the wheels stop skidding and reapplies them.
Are your brakes worn or is there air in the braking system this can make the brakes usless.

ABS braking isn't as strong as "hard braking" if you know what I mean.

ah right, the pedal did judder, so take that as the abs then.
pads and disks are good.

Can u turn ABS off, cause I nearly crashed into a wall in the snow few weeks ago. I know Vauxhall do a switch kit for the astra's.

Yep pull the fuse or uplug one of the sensors but its not a good idea the ABS only comes on when its realy needed if you unplug it for road use then there somehting wrong with the brakes not the ABS.

Wont be unplugging it on the road, just in the snow!

i dont find it very intrusive

even on an airfield day i still felt i had control over my braking rather than the abs controlling how fast i could stop/slow

fair enough in the snow its bad but thats extreme conditions and just have to take it easy

if you turned it off the bias would resort to 50/50 and lock the rears up , and its not funny in a clio
