1.8 16v central locking?

My 1.8 16v wont unlock the red LED on the key fob is lighting up, and ive bought some new batterys for it but is still wont unlock, does any 1 now what the problem might be? any 1 else has this problem?

i used to have a 16v and the same thing went wrong i had to get the reciever unit changed up by the mirror it had got wet from the sun roof

Mine's like this too. Can you simply replace it with a woprking one from anotehr car Mike? Or does it have to be programmed etc?
