1.9dci into a clio

  2015 Audi S3 Stage 3
has any one any experience or know if a 1.9dci (or even a 2.2dci or 2.0dci) will fit into a clio?

ive been toying with the idea for a while now, originally about sticking a 172 into my clio but then, since its deisel, id have to replace EVERYTHING

what about tunning? are there FMIC's available for these engines? best company for remaps?

any help appreciated but dont suggest a new car lol

thanks

interesting project. the latest 2.0 T DCI from the facelift laguna is the powerfullest 2.0 diesel engine on sale at the mo in the UK i belive, has almost lowest emissions and has best economy-power ration at a combined 47mpg. it pushes 175bhp and lots or torque, it also has an incinerator that bruns soot every 800 miles to keep engine longevity. its pretty smart although sourcing one will be tricky and probably expensive (unless you get lucky at a breakers or something).

best bet is the older 1.9dci of the laguna or the 2.2dci. i think there are quite a few 150bhp GT versions kicking about, as far as remapping ??? ive only ever seen plug in modules to give 170-175hp which is a bit of a shame as i expect with a 2.2dci standard 150-155hp you should be nearer 190hp with a custom remap

my g/fs dad had a 1.9 dci megane and the engine was huge, so not sure if u could shoe horn it in, prob is possible though. that ran 120bhp, but the torque was massive and felt very powerful

powerfullest

most powerfull? ;-)

the 2.0dci has 150bhp and 271lb/ft - that would interest me more but anything is better than the 80bhp im running at the min lol

anyone any dimensions of the 1.9/2.0 engine?

why not visit RS-tuning in leeds for a remap on the 80dci ? they should squeeze 100bhp-105bhp out of yours. i think the dci 100 only benefits from a large intercooler to produce extra power, dont quote me on this but with a dci100 intercooler + rs-tuning remap you may see 121bhp and lots of torque, easliy fast enough.

.. also ive posted on here about a week or two ago about DCI tuning do a search as i posted about a tuning company that supply plug in boxes and they claimed the largest results ive seen (only by about 3hp) but i cant remember the website

ohh and it belive its the 2.2 with 150hp only the 06 models get a 2.0Tdiesel other wise its a 1.9

you would have to be into diesels bigtime to go to the trouble.

I hate deisels, lol. But one will come to me at somepoint unless i get a job with less miles.

I would have thought the newer dci 1.9 1870cc engines must be based on the old 1870cc diesel engines that was in the mk2ph1 clios, there was 2 versions of that: a 65hp version and the rare 80hp engine in the si spec cars. Surely the new engines in the megane and laguna are uprated from these and would fit.

meggerman - i already have a speedbuster tunning box in the clio which has 98.2bhp

a dci100 intercooler would be hard enough to track down also

im also from northern ireland lol so leeds would be a hassle :p

ill have to get hold of a megane and find out if the engine is the same size

you can pick up the meg engines and gearbox for £400 :O

only reason id put a deisel back in is because i would have to take everything apart to put a petrol in plus - its something different :D

il do a search tonight. i have it bookmarked on my laptop a company who send out the tuning box by mail and get really good gains. a dci 100 intercooler wont be hard to track down at all. + you could get one made or order one from a DCI tuning company (again il try look tonight)

thanks lad

ideally i want to know if the 1.9 will fit into the clio but i mite settle for the 100 intercooler and custom remap

  clio si dti
ive got a 1.9 si dti engine in my mk2ph1 same engine as whats in the megane dti not sure about the laguna but think you should be able to fit one in them the engines are probably based on the old 1.9 engines so could be same shape, size

It will fit I did some checks there a few issues though.
1) Gearbox choice he stock one which isn't that good and only stands 400NM torque and the brand new 175hp dci has to be limited as the box can only hold 400NM and have a warenty.
2) Getting the gearbox to fit difficult one stock box is big its the same as Freds using so you need to cut the chassic leg a lot and then weld on strengthening plates so ensure the car stays together.
3) Managment the stock one could be made to run any diesel engine and for me this is the way I'd do otherwise with the multi ecu etc your have to stick almost a complete Megan etc loom in there just check the teeth on a 1.5dci and 1.9 etc are the same and away you go stock 1.5 mapping should start the car but you'd need it remapped for the best as dci mapping (depending on model) is diferent than a 1.9 uses. If it has a different number of teeth then it can befixed either get a crank sensor setup made with the samer number of teeth or get a specailist to remap the stock ecu so it can deal with the different number of teeth the 1.9 etc has.
3) Engine size, the engines would need to have the fuel high pressure pump moved or a ncustom radiator or a good bodge moving the pump and you should replace the lines in accordance with Renault guidlines and try and then get pipes custom made to match you'll have fun.
4) Mounts are different than can be fixed compared with the above its easy use 172 and other bits and you'd be fine.
5) Hubs, sotkc ones won't lat long with 170hp on them and a load of torqu you could keep thema dn see how it goes but hubs from the doner would be a good idea.
6) Driveshaft are different size have them custom made using the old ones and shorten etc to fit and use either standard 1.5 outers or Megan outers if your using Megan etc hubs.
7) Brakes, No bigge use stock brakes (the 150hp Williams was ok so 170 no huge but if you use 172 hubs the 172 calipers are a direct fit so thats a easy cheap upgrade.
8) Fuel pump won't give you enough (safly but on paper it would give 220hp or so in theory but I wouldn't use them beyond 110hp) you need to get one from the doner car or beter still get one from an Evo/scoobie etc upgrade as they can stand the fuel flow rates safely
9) New fuel lines stock ones arn't big enought thats no huge issue though.

Thats assuming you use the new dci engine the Mk2 phase 1 Clio some came with the 110hp last generation diesel chipped it will go 130hp and everything is a direct swop so get a crashed doner and you're laughing.

A 172 conversion won't be any more difficult than it is ona 1.2 etc you just need to swop the fuel tank whcih is a few bolts the pumps has to be changed anyway so thats no problem would take maybe 20 minutes loner to convert a dci to 172 or just clean out the dci tank. You have to stip the dash out to do a 172 conversion and replace loads of looms so its no difference to a 1.2 conversion etc.

Remap your engine and 105hp then you've a few optiosn but the price get high a new intercooler and turbo and a exhaust + intake bits and ~135hp can be done any more and you need custom injecotrs but with then the power no limit but injectors work like this is say £1k if the business wants to be the first to do it and use you as a test bed. But new injecotrs a good turbo and 165hp should be fine.

It would be a good swop but its a lot of time and effort either chip yours or get a 1.9 110hp from the last shape car and swop everything or a 172 conversion. However I though about doing this but cost wise its just not eficient unless your engines already dead and you have to pay repare work costs.

as usual edde, great help :D thanks

ill take that all into account but looks like the new DCi engine is out of the question if i have to cut up the car

i mite consider buying a wrecked 172 and sell it for parts etc...

ill keep it all in mind :D

thanks again

Ive been thinking again

Can parts be used from he 1.9/2.0 DCi engines eg turbo, intercooler, injectors etc.... and be put into/adapted to the 1.5DCi?

just a thought

yes.
Turbo would fit with custom adapter making plus decat. (not that difficult) the portugest member on here has a BMW 2.0 turbo on his car.
Injectros err nope you could get a specialist to use them and your own to make bigger flowing 1.5 ones though.
Intercooler yep but its a bit big for what you need.

what gains and troubles would you get with fitting a turbo and intercooler?
None infact you'd get more lag.
You need a serious custom remap but a 80dci running massive injcotor pressure and stupid wide maps should make about 135hp but thats the limt of the injectors you need more fule to utilise them fully but custom injectors arn't cheap say £1~1.5k for a set which will with the turbo and intercooler assuming they can run at say 1.7bar make about 160hp the thing is the torque even with just the turbo intercooler and remap will means the clucth slips you'd have to back off the fueling to make it last or swop to a stronger one in which case the box is the week point now and quick shifting will kill it.
I'd personally stick to the standard 1400bar pressure ibnjection and wider injector windows but don't go stupid and you should have 120hp with a suitable turbo and intercooler.

Ttrouble fitting the turbo well you need to check its not going to be to big the 137hp one abroad is mapped to rev to 6k and a 1.9 turbo will take longer to spool up usually and might not make any more usable boost than the stock one you need to check the compressor etc maps to make sure they work.

thanks again

i wouldnt want to take the car to the limit as i use it every day and do alot of miles

i would like to easily break the 100bhp mark and would only like to add the turbo/intercooler combo with maybe a remap or put my t-box back in

how much would i get a 2nd hand turbo/intercooler for?

To crack 100hp from your car you just need a remap or good tunning box try mrhoot.co.uk for cheap boxes or go to Superchip for a good remap with a warently.
