10 or 12 months insurance?

  cock mobile.
My insurance is due for renewal on the 23, lucky me!

My best quote so far has been with elephant and come in at:

£874.60 for 12 months
£765.87 for 10 months

My girlfriend was bugging me to get her insured on my car, so I thought what the hell I'll do a quote for a laugh.

At least I though it would be a laugh, she passed 1 yr 4 months ago and had a write off for about £3800 a year ago this month; she also doesn't live with me and we are not married. I did declare all that.

Price with her:

£767.50 for 12 months
£658.31 for 10 months

How can it be cheaper with her? Crazy, so I think I'll put her on to save money if anything.

Is it worth going for the 10 months to get an extra years no claim a bit earlier? I currently have two; or is the slightly higher price each month not justifible?

Thanks

The 10 months is a scam, the ncd will only be recognised with Elephant. Go 12 months mate.

Really!?

Other insurers offer it to? I guess they are not transferable then?

how many years do you think last 10 months sean? it's a scam to get you to stay with them, they will honour the NCB, others won't, making their quotes cheaper than others

vicious circle

adding a female with elephant is a bizarre way to get cheaper insurance, but it does work

Ok cheers guys. 12 months it is!

Not sure if I should tell her that she's a named driver, she'll always want to drive it, and she'll go slow and that will annoy me more than if she ragged it!

try green light insurance my quote from then was £150 cheaper than elephants.

!0 month seems a good idea cos its cheaper. THink of it in a different way, uve only got 10 months to save up for next yrs premium.

Theres only a few insurance companies that accept a ten month bonus as 1yr NC if ur changing company.

Cheers for the info, green light were no good, the quote wasn't competitive (I forget the exact figure).

Apparently they don't care for Cups :( There was a thread a few days back.

ant

  yep.
hold on right there just a minute!!!!!

ive done the "10 month thing" with admiral for the past 20 months. So when searching for a cheaper quote obviously i've been saying i had 2 years no claims.

so you're all saying i dont? cnuts!!!!!!!!!

thats a right load of b****cks.

i'm guessing i should at least have 1 year then?

I just had a cancelled policy with Admiral and they sent me out a certificate of my NCB (3yrs) this has been using the 10month policy and it was made clear that this would be accepted by other insurers.

As the industry is regulated I dont see how they could offer this without having at least small print saying it wont be accepted elsewhere. I certainly havnt seen any.

yeah cus they offer it as a bonus accelerator, in theory you could take them to court if it didnt count as 1 years, as that is what they are saying it will do

What problems?

Can you explain further?

Basically he had damage to his roof from chaisis flex, there was no other damage to bodywork but all four wheels suspension parts and subframe need replacing. Elephant refused to payout saying the roof crease wasnt related. It is still unresolved and his car has been off the road for 4months. My old 172 had had similar, damage just with a broken wing as the suspension had snapped, that was repaired under insurance.

Quite a few insuers accept 10 months policies as 1 yrs NCB but not all.
I'd go for the 12 month one ever time.
Thats a good price though I'm the same age and they want twice that much.
