15" wheel recommendations

My 182 track car has the original 16" wheels over Ceika 6-pot calipers.
Good 15" track tyres, in particular Nankang AR-1 are a lot cheaper than 16". So much so I reckon I could quickly recoup the cost of the wheels, particularly if I can get them second hand.

I think the overall diameter of 195/50 15 Vs 205/45 16 is about 15mm smaller. That's not a problem.

My only concern is clearing the calipers. I'm not sure anyone on the Forum has the Ceika 6 pots, but as the photos show I think there is enough clearance in the diameter if I go for a very simple design. However the spoke clearance is very tight.
The OEM wheels are 7x16 ET45 ?? So if I stick with 7" width but maybe go for ET<40 I think it should work. Again with a simple spoke design.

So the only other thing is to take the opportunity to go light, but without spending a fortune!
I'm thinking Team Dynamics Prorace 1.2, but would welcome any recommendations or pointers to decent used wheels for sale.

What you'll save on tyres you'll pay extra for 15" 1.2s, last set of 16" 1.2s I bought were £200 with tyres.

We are looking at paying around £90 for a 15" AR-1 against £140ish for a 16"
We go through at least a pair of fronts every trackday at Lydden. Sometimes all 4 tyres, although I have taken to putting harder tyres on the rear as it actually helps the handling!
So as Nankang AR-1 are about £50 cheaper per tyre in 15", given maybe 8 track or race days a season there's a potential to save around £800 a year.
(Still spending about £1400 a year on tyres though!)

Iv had TD 1.2's off demon tweeks for £350 before now, so would save you money on tyres pretty quickly.

Honestly can't remember! You're pushing yours a lot harder than I am if you're getting through tyres at that rate.

I think it's just that Lydden Hill is notoriously hard on tyres, and it's all corners.
With nice soft tyres in warm weather you get tonnes of grip, but whatever you do with camber etc. the tyres just give up their rubber.
Sensible brain would say just use harder tyres and save money, but racing brain says FU, use whatever you can to go as fast as you can!

I really appreciate the offer, many thanks, but I'm down in the south east corner right by the channel tunnel.
Don't think us covid-riddled Kentish folk should be travelling too far!
But if I haven't sorted the wheels by the time we are released back into the community it would be a great reason to have a decent drive out.

That's a pretty good price. I think they are around £500 on DT at the moment, but still worth a look.

You used to be able to get 1.2’s direct from Rimstock for £330 delivered made to whatever spec you wanted, last time I checked they weren’t taking orders until Jan 2021 and I’ve since decided to keep my old 15’s as my wet wheels so not bothering to buy another set.

Edit: I bought my set from there in 2018, so perhaps the price has gone up slightly but still a bargain.

Good point about wets/spares. I will keep my 16" wheels for wet tyres, no point selling them they are not cosmetically pleasing!
