OK assuming he has no mods at all, and it is the standard RS2000 and not the 4x4 version, the specs are.

Power - 150bhp and 142lb/ft
Speed - 132 max 0-60 8.2 secs

Might sound pretty good, but with all that extra weight and a crap gearbox reckon you could just about do him, have to be on your game though!!

You should toast him. Take him down some twisty roads (private runway of course) and let the clio show him what its made of. Escorts are heavy. I used to have a 1.6 scirocco and my friend used to have a 1.6 escort 16v and i always used to toast him! easy money mate.

Also, do all the pre-race checks: oil level, tyre pressures, remove spare wheel and fill with only a little optimax. If youre really worried, empty your windscreen washer bottle to gain those vital split seconds!

sat in the passenger seat on a test drive of a RS2000, felt crap, when accellerating was waiting for it to start pulling but it never did.
guy at the garage reconed they need overhauling every 50k due to blocked valves.
i recon you will win.

Dont be fooled into thinking that the RS2000 has the sort of pedigree engineering, expertise or ability that something like the RS Cosworth or plain Focus have.

The staight line 0-60 will be closer than you think, but the 16v is a vastly more capable all-rounder.

I reckon you learnt your lesson about carrying passengers while racing that Pug Quicksilver!! So do it alone, otherwise the extra torque that the RS2000 has will do you no favours!

Bloody hell i used to beat one on regular occasions in my Heavily modded 1.4. Everytime the guy saw me he would try it on again and everytime he would loose. Since i got my Williams though he wont come near me Ha Ha Ha.

Thanks for all your saying i have arranged a race on saturday down this industrial estate!!!i am just gonna start takin my spare tyre off now and i dont think i will put any petrol in till saturday!!just 1 problem though my gear box is leaking and 2engine mounts gone!!pick my engine mounts up 2night and then my car goes into the garage to get the gear box fixed and engine mounts put on to!but i think my exhaust is blowing noe because of the engine moving about too much
