I knew a lad who owned a mint Fiesta RS tub (mildly modded), Clio 16v (chipped) and a sh*tty old 205 1.9. He said the 205 was the fasted out the lot and the most fun to drive. Probably would go along with him. He also considered the 16v to be faster than the RS turbo by just a little.
a Clio16v / pug 1.9 gti on the twists would come down to driver skill me thinks.. too close to bet on. If its any concilation i got creamed by a MK2 1.8 golf this morning!! and yes.. i was trying, evidently so was he! never "ever" had any issues with "any" golfs before hand. Even 1.8 Turbos!! this one was clearly modded! i was hopping hed post here today to rub it in! would like to know what he had done to it!!
I have raced both the mrk 2 16v GTI and 8v GTI several times.
The 16v GTI is so similar to the 16v that we always joke that at any speed we cant pull away from each other. Even seem to top out at the same speed.
The 8v GTI is different and can beat my valver every time. Not by much though, but is deffinatly a tiny bit faster. We once had a race (me the 8v GTI and 16v GTI) and supprisingly the 8v just about beat both of us. Once the valver got over 100 though it started to catch up and by the time it hit 125 it flew past the 8v.
Hmmm - I am suprised at that! The 8vs arent supposed to be quick at all... The 16vs are suposed to be fairly evenly matched with he 1.9GTi. I would have thought the Valver was quicker... I must be wrong then!
mmm Ive destroyed golf gtis and 205 gtis but the 205 was a 1.6. Just wondering about the golf as the drivers of these are smug buggers often looking down on my french car.
The mrk 3 golf GTis are a peice of piss to beat. I love racing these as the owners always think that they are fast as feck but really they are heavy dogs!!
mk.2 golf 16vs are very quick. A good mate of mine has one thats slightly modded - lightened fly wheel balanced engine/clutch or something. It certainly isnt slow! another good mate of mine has a Miami blue 1.9 Gti and he was offered £6000 to sell it! its immaculate and has new engine, gas flowed and balanced crank/clutch - they both together would be a good race.
Im waiting for them both to race each other! I think theyd both beat my other good friends VTS, but it would be very close.
It would be very close and maybe all down to the driver. As standard stats go the 205 would be slowest just behind the other 2. Mid-range the 205 loses it a wee bit 30-70 7.9secs. As for a Fezzie RS Turbo chipped - if set up correctly klmillard with a uprated actuator would annialate them all until the corners - I have proved it on many occasions and there is no comparason in a straight line My standard FRST was identical to my MK 2 16V Golf gti which and both were quicker than 2 x 205 1.9s I know.
