A cambelt kit - part number 7701474019 is £120.00 + vat and an auxilary belt is £15.99 + vat part number 8200226493. The labour rate with Renault is 2.7 hours to do both belts ( £45 - £70 per hour depending on dealer ) When you fit a timing belt it is essential that you fit new pulleys as well, as the pulleys are made of plastic and if there not renewed they will eventually collapse causing mass damage - the equivalent of a snapped cambelt. Always change the auxilary belt as well as if this snaps they have been known to become entangled in the cambelt and cause the cambelt to jump, again causing massive damage to your engine
Timing belt change every 72k or every 5 years - whichever comes 1st. Personally i would do one every 50k are every 3 years due to experience with these snapping.
Here in Australia the owners manuals we get say the belt has to be done at the 60,000 km (37,500 miles) service.
Had an early Honda Civic. The cam-belt snapped. The piston came up and the valves were still down. They didn't fit. Honda decided to add belt replacement to the service schedule.
Cam belts may be cheaper and simpler than chains. But they don't last. So what you saved when you bought the car you then have to pay to regularly replace the belt.
I need to get this done ASAP then, i do a bag load of miles each month. On the flip side of the coin, if it did snap, i could always drop a TT engine in, hey matt? No seriously i'm cacking my self, not the best time of year to be shelling out but its better than the consequence.
