172 cambelt change

Car  Clio 172
hey,
can anyone give me an idea of how much i'm looking at paying for a cambelt change on a 172?
cheers

£352 I paid at a Citroen/Renault specialist. Included bearings but not Aux Belt which is recommended.

yeah. my aux bearing was dam noisie so it had to be changed. I could have got it done round the corner for 380 cambelt only but Rentec's reviews are good and i wasnt going to mess around with cowboy garage for a cambelt.

just allow extra money for other unexpected things.

French cars in shrewsbury shropshire, seemed to know what he was doing to.

you say "just allow extra money for other unexpected things"

like what?

for example, the bearing for me was unexpected but it was essential to replace. If i hadnt then the aux belt would have snapped and taken the new cambelt with it. Its always good to allow extra money things like this.

The water pump replacement is also another unexpected but sometimes a required thing to do.

When i had mine in for 36K service a lil while ago they said to get the auxilliary belt done as it can snap and get into the cambelt and cause that to go... Qouted me £350 to change that so i said ermm NO!

Nope didnt get it done! Mainly becoz they said there was nothing wrong with it just advised me as a precaution... Id like to think my aux belt should get more than 40K miles out of it!!

the fitter who does are work vans. had a look in to it and said he can do mine for £250...good ol boy..

thanks for the info dudes, guess i'd better contact some garages.
if anyone knows of a good one in kent, or nearby, let me know.

not on a 172... but on a 1.2:o but surely a 172 is not much more difficult to change than a 1.2 ???

lol, in my 1.2 dynamique i could see the road through my engine bay... in my 172 i can bearly get the oil dipstick. Everything is so tight..

172 requires the removal of the bumper and 5.5 hours of work to do.. thats why its qo expensive in comparison.

Up to you, but i'd get it done!

Are they really replaced after 40K miles?? (on 50115 now i think!!) Thats not a lot of miles is it really?? I mean cambelt is done at 72k???

mate i got mine done on 43k miles last week BECAUSE there was an unlucky bloke here who only did about 48k but was 5 years old and his cambelt snapped.

always good idea not to take shortcuts when cambelt is due. It will only cost you more later.

but im talking about the auxiliary belt here now the cambelt?? Think i paid £200 odd quid for a 36k service but just seen on the K-tec site that they do 36k Service with Aux belt change for £210 plus VAT??!! WTF!!!

Yeah Renault in Bury St Edmunds... Rip off merchants they are!! £200 quid to change my heater resistor!
