At some point in the near future i'll be changing the cam and aux belt on my 172 the procedure looks to be very similar to when I changed it on my old 1.6 but this time i've got the addition of the phase shifter on the inlet camshaft.
In the renault docs it says (obviously) that you need to immobilise the crown wheel of the phaser shifter so it cannot advance or r****d whilst your changing the belt. How do you go about this?
When the camshaft is dephased at idle as it will be when you've got it in pieces is it against a stop and won't turn anymore one way but will the other?(as it advances the timing) Or is it still floating?
I've got the tools to pin the cams and the crank at tdc so neither of those will move but i'm not sure with the VVT Phase Shifter?
