172 CLIO REAR HUBS CHECK THIS!

Swopped my wheels front to rear the other day, cause im a tight git and want my tyres to last as long as possible, And noticed that on the rear hub bearings the caps had been left off from new, this allows water and dirt to get into rear bearing.

Could potentially be a safety issue so check this:

Remove the rear alloy wheel nut cover and if you can see the hub nut I suggest you get down to your dealer to have them fit a dust cap if your is missing.

If you car is less than a year old you should be ok on warranty, if not they are about £6.00 each.

If its been missing from new then your dealer should fit them for free.Never come across a car with them missing before though.

ok, just been out and checked my car, i dont have a single one of these on any of the wheels, why is it a safety issue? i dont understand?

well Ive been out for a look at my hubs. Im missing all 4 of them. Cars going back tuesday for their 3rd attempt at replacing my washer bottle, so Ill get them to whack a set on whilst theyve got it.

None on any of my wheels either. I would have thought that the nut cover did just as good a job at protecting the bearing as those dust covers.

Would this be only for 172s then..?

I have a 1.2..it hasnt got covers and theres rust.

Hi all

They should only be on the rear wheels, as to the safety issue of this, basically if your rear hub bearings get water and dirt into the bearings then the bearing could fail(you would probably hear them first), my warranty claim was rejected on the grounds it should have been noticed in the 1st year(strange as the wheels dont normally get removed in the 1st year).

Anyway hope you all get them just to be safe, will post anything else I find when I can.

My cars just got back for the dealers. They reckon these caps arent needed on new Clios. But they fitted 2 on the rear wheels anyway WTF!! So have a word with your local Ren dealer.

They also checked the other clios on the forecourt and none had these caps.

Oh and these caps were replaced FREE of charge.

mine has not either, but then again i have waited a year dor them to find out where my car is from, renault uk still havent got a clue
