172 clutch

hi guys im getting my clutch for the 172 done tomorrow, its done 60k miles and the biting point has gone very very high so id rather just get it changed before it goes.

right, well ive just bought a standard replacement clutch kit from euro car parts (£96) and it states that the 172 clutch is the same thats used on 2litre lagunas is this correct??

ive been quoted £120 labour and should take around 4 hours, does this seem reasonable also?

Yep same clutch the engines are the same realy.

Ah nice - im near reading most weekends!... can you post up again once you have had it done plz to confirm thats all you paid if thats ok.. not being cynical but worried that the garage may have underestimated the work involved thats all and may bump it up.. get the quote in writing if you can mate...

hiya guys just an update. the work did take the whole day but they kept to thier word and charged me £120. man its fooking awesome, the clutch is soooooo much lighter!

next is the cambelt which they quoted me £80-100 labour and again getting the parts from euro car parts who said the cambelt kit is £31.00!i asked them to double check that and he goes yeh its only 2 pulleys and a belt, i was still suprised as to how cheap that is!

make sure they have the correct cam locking tools for doing the cambelt

£131 for the cambelt fitted.....that can't be right.

Cheapest I've got it down to is around £350

That is super cheap mate, definitely check they have the right belt, tensioners, pullys, etc...i'm sure the genuine renault part is £120ish on it's own!

Yeah, and what Yozza said about the tools, the guy who did mine said that he didn't need 'em...then had to go out and buy them when he realised he did! :rasp:

If it's all cosher you have yourself a bargain there my friend...

Euro car parts won't come with the tensioners which you need to change and come in the Renault kit.
