172 cup Exhaust rattel at 4k

Hi,
For some unknown reason my 172 cup has developed an exhaust rattel when I rev it to 4000rpm.
anyone else had this?!?!
Whats the cure?!!?

Join the club, they all do that.

I had a new mid-section under warranty, but after a few 1000miles it's came back.

Nothing to worry about.

Is it like a crazy vibration noise coming from directly below you when accelerating hard above 4krpm? then if you drop a cog into high revs and let it decelerate it makes that noise too?

It sounds really bad.

or if you just rev it above 4k it vibarates like hell!!

one of your exhaust mounts will have gone, u could probably pick a new one up from renault for a few bob.

i had the same sort of noise went in to dealer fitted new cat n still the same ! so i took it to tsl motorsport they found the noise in 30 mins. turned out to be the 2nd oxy senser was rubing on the heat shield on the metal tip where the wires join the plastic sleave . hope this may help :approve:

To all of the above...

The heat shield has come loose, need a new one, its covered under warranty mate, had mine done at 30k and the noise has never come back.

Tell renault this when you take it back though, as otherwise you'll end up with all sorts of things being replaced (as the guys above have) that dont need doing.

happened on my old mk1 clio.. on of the rubber exhuast mounts rotted and came loose, this caused it to rattle.

Kind of normal. Mine did it and heatshield had come loose (as stated above) got that fixed and fine. Then had banging whilst accelerating (not axel tramp) so I've just had my gear box mountings tightened and its rattling again, same noise same problem with heatshield. Never ending battle with the rattling bloody clios!

oh come on its simply the centre section as Dan said about a year ago

take it off and replace it with a new one. They are only manufactured to last 36k max

Once I had the centre box replaced it was fine.

You can only hear it slightly when you nail it round a right hand bend at 4k, but it's much better.

happened to me aswell.... bought a used std exhaust off of dave3141... worked a treat.

Then got rid altogether for a prospeed system

Now it just makes everything APART from the exhaust rattle.

Good advice on this thread.

I have bought a Blueflame exhaust [Cat back] and will check to see if the heatshield is loose/close to anything also

Its a horrendous noise!

I had it. Centre section replaced under warranty about 2k miles ago. I'm sure it's starting to return too!
