Non 172 Cups get the speedo driven from ABS sensors. As the 172 Cup has no ABS it has a different 'box casing with an output to feed the speedometer.
You could fit any 'box really although if it's not a Cup one you'll need to find another way to drive the speedometer.
I put a 182 'box in my 172 Cup and had a permanently wired in Road Angel to give me speeds...but then it was a track car with occasional road use only so I could live with that compromise.
Cheers guys looks like I'm all sorted with a jc5 129 box from a low mileage car. Any advice on a clutch was looking at the valeo as a lot of people on here recommend it. Nice video at goodwood mark until the gearbox broke i think that's exactly what happened to the car I've just got. Don't think I'll be ready in time but was hoping to be at goodwood on the 10th of April for my first ever trackday in a car.
