172 cup key and central locking problem



  106 S2 Rallye
Just bought a 172 cup and the previous owner said they snapped the key off in the driver lock. The key fits in the passenger lock but doesn't work. It goes into the ignition and works fine. Apparently they just used the key fob for when they locked it but that isn't working even with a new battery. What are my options go to Renault and pay out the ears for the problem to be fixed or can I get a new set of door locks/barrel/key/transponder and just put in a new system myself or will this not work electronics isn't my best area.

Anyone know? I'm assuming if I was to get a set of locks/keys/ignition barrels/ that the key wold need to be programmed to a transponder in the car?
Am I right in thinking if I did get those and those alone and attempt to turn the car over I'd lock the ECU?
Do these cars have a transponder box and would I be able to just take one out to run another set of locks/barrel/key.
Any clarification appreciated.

I've just had a new key programmed today, you can go on ebay and buy them for £22 and then find a specialist who can program them - It depends where you live who will do this.
Your local Renault will also do this or order you a key from France.

Just opened the old key up and looks like a little black switch has came loose on the opposite side of the circuit board from the battery. Never heard anything rattle so I didn't presume to look. Might try solder it back on tomorrow see if that works.
I never even thought about a key off ebay I will get one now though thanks! Get it cut and programmed for a spare. See what the local dealer will charge me for a reprogram then.

You can change the blade part of the key and physical locks/ignition barrel, the blip part of the key is tied into the uch/ecu, again these can be swapped as a complete set as long as all the part numbers match or as said above buy a new key and have it re programmed to match the uch

Yeah spoke to local Renault dealer today got a key off eBay coming Friday and booked in Monday to get it coded to the car don't think they're too happy I'm supplying my own key. Hopefully they don't have issues coding the replacement key to the car. Forgot to ask for a price as well.
