172 Cup - Nothing comes close...

  Cup 172
Right...

Had my Cup for 2.5 years now. Despite the normal Renault problems and the French build quality, I still love it.

Problem is I normally only hold onto my cars for a year. The Cup has an extended warranty until next October, so really Id like to sell in June/July, so the next owner knows its under warranty and I can get a better price...

Dont really want to put much more cash in, so will have a budget of around 8k.

It has to be fast, new enough to be reliable, fun, have some character and no bigger than the Cup (to fit in the garage). All I can think of is the Trophy (would cost more, could stretch to it, but not really worth the extra 4k IMHO), a C2 VTS (not really my thing), or a Lupo GTI (slower and more expensive).

Am I missing soemthing, or is there nothing else that really comes close???

I'd go for the Trophy! but just get a full fat 172/182! not that much diff IMO! and u get leather and air con!

But if u want a change get a type R? bit more then 8K tho

Prefere the Cup to a 172FF or a 182. They were available when I got mine, so I still prefer the Cup.

Do like the Trophy, but not sure whether its worth the extra.

Not keen on CTRs. Do like ITR DC2, but it wouldnt fit in the garage...

Looks like your gona get another cup then? (or keeping ur cup)

i agree you have to spend a big bag of cash to get a car better then ur Cup (or any clio sport)

  Weeman sucks ****
I've had mine 4 years now, have thought about swapping it more times than I've had hot dinners. Not much else out there comes close for the money, as said above.

Saying that, I love the little Lupo gti's. A mate used to have ne and my sister's got one now and they're cracking cars. Granted slower in a straight line but bomb proof and nice inside. Sure a good set of coilovers would make it a corker. If it wasn't for that stupid little petrol tank...

Absolutely no point swapping a Cup for another RS Clio variant IMO. There's not enough difference between them. (apart from insurance maybe cheaper)

Just keep it!

Exactly the same boat mate. Also thought about selling mine a few times, but when i look around there is only the CTR i'd consider, and then i'm not 100% keen, when i took my mates out it did nothing for me.

i just bought some recaro's, thinking about cams next :)

you could get a bigger garage, then you could get an mg zs 180 like me and dust all the clios like theyre going on about in other marques section!!!!
13.9 at 101 mph at santa pod.

Just clicked onto 35k on the way to work this morning... Pretty low for a car over 4 years old...

Had the timing belt done underw arranty last year when they were fixing an oil leak, so no major bills other than the 36k service next week...

I've been in the same boat mate! Theres nothing that offers the performance/thrills of the cup for around 8k-10k unless you go back a few years and go for something like an integra or something - me personally I dont like going backwards on reg's. It feels like a step backwards for some bizarre reason!

Think I made a very wise choice 2.5 years ago...

Might just keep it for another couple of years... No point changing for the sake of it...

Probably quite a commom problem: what to get next?

I'm just hoping that Peugeot come up with the goods, a decent version of the 207 GTi perhaps (to better their 1.9, 205 GTi). Face it, Reno aren't bothering much these days - the 197 just doesn't interest me at all! Or I could move to a cheaper house and buy an Evo.

I think the problem is that new cars have to be safe and this means more weight, which means slower!

cars are getting slower (but safer), face it

Keep the Cup! Or the other end of the spectrum that will fit in garage and spank any car you like.......GSX 1000R! (if you like bikes and don't mind a few risks)

MG dude. ZS......now that's amusing!

Hard choice mate not alot on the market especially for the cash point of view.

About 6 months ago I bought an R5GTT for 500quid but have spent the last 6 months rebuilding. Good fun really enjoyed it, maybe you should consider a project or something.

I use the Cup as a daily drive and my little baby R5 as a weekend car , great cars if you get a good one few on the net at the moment plus parts a reasonably cheap.

Just an idea maybe not an R5 but maybe a kit car or something.

I didn't have any previous mechanical experience I just learnt but it helps being a mechanical engineer but maybe give it a shot.

Honest it's a good crack
