172 Cup - original caliper colour

Hi. I'm going to do an arch by arch refurb and wax protect,etc on my cup. Calipers will need a repaint. Am I right in thinking that they were silver when new? many thanks.

I'm sure they were silver but not painted like most new cars mate

p.s. i wonder what i could put on them to keep them nice. maybe take them apart and clearcoat.

Strip, clean, paint, and rebuild.
Should last many many years then.
