172 Cup Speaker Upgrade

  Clio 172 Cup
Good Afternoon

I am bored and looking at some uprated speakers for my Cup I think front and rear as something I can do at home whilst locked in.

I have an aftermarket decent head unit any recommendations for direct replacements ie pioneer ect

thanks as always

What size are the speakers inside a Clio?I have not got around to checking for myself yet,in my Scooby I run JL Audio components which are very high quality and sound crystal clear with superb b-line,when I get around to putting speakers in my clio i will definitely be sticking with that brand...

I am not sure mate I saw some pioneers which look good on eBay I figured that any aftermarket will be better than the shite that comes through the standard ones 😂

Play around with the HPF/LPF and stop the bass to the fronts.

Get a sub, job jobbed. Underseat or in the boot.

The standard fronts are already a separate tweeter and woofer, without the heavy low end stuff going through them they will go loud enough to make you uncomfy before they distort.

Thats good to know,as I said above I've never checked, I thought that they would of been the usual coaxial set up...

I presumed upgrading the door speakers and rears would make a difference?
You've still got the same signal coming from the HU tho... Yes, possibly slightly better but it's really not worth it. A 10/13cm paper cone on the door card isn't ever going to be ideal.

Set the LPF to 80 or 100hz and see if it sounds clearer when a bit louder.. Obviously that means there'll be less bass (if that isn't obvious, do some reading on low and high pass filters!) but it'll prove my point.

If your speakers are dead then replace them, btw.

If not.. a sub will be a far better investment. Twas all I ever did in my Clio and it was more than enough !

Once the fronts aren't having to deal with the low end stuff they're never designed to do, they come alive !!

Unless you're going to add an amp to power the new speakers, you won't really get much of an improvement unless the original speakers are goosed.

Most aftermarket speakers aren't as sensetive and require more power to get moving.

Start sound deadening too. If you want new front speakers dont mess around and go 6.5" fitted with mdf rings and with separate tweets.

I have looked into this myself and concluded that the standard speakers are actually good. The best way to get better sounds is to fit an underseat sub. I'm hoping to get a Kenwood one soon.
