172 De-cat

  Ph1 V6
I have got a de-cat for my Ph1 172. Problem is its got a single Lambda sensor and my car has the big fat cat with dual sensors.

The guy I bought it off on here said he had a hole drilled in his exhaust for the second lambda. Would it not be better to drill a hole in my de-cat as I am less worried about damaging that my exhaust?

Also how easy are they to fit? I can use a pit. By the looks they dissapear up into the engine bay so not as simple as my old 16v. And will the light come on on the dash even with both lambdas in?

Cheers guys.

You are better off boxing up the 2nd lambda and taping it out of the way. If you fit both, you will most probably activate the emissions light.

As for fitment, it is not a nice job. You need someone hanging over the back of the engine holding a long 10mm socket onto the bolts with someone else under the car, on their back undoing the nuts. Budget for around 2-3 hours if it is your first time at changing one.

Just take up the sensor sensor wiring and tape it out the way ans stick the second sensor in the cupboard you don't need it. If you do fit and plus the sensor in you'll get a emmisions warning light.

if u dont plug the 2nd sensor in you wont get a warning light.

2nd sensor is for obd self cat testing - part of new emission regs

Light will probably come on what ever you do. Ive had mine plugged in, taped up etc etc and the light always ended up coming on.
There does seem to be rare cases tho where it never comes on on some cars..

It should only come on in the 182's for definate the 172's should all be fixed due to there programming being different. However even on 182's its not definate it will come on.

Anyone got pics of them doing this or where the Cat attaches to the manifold? Just wondering how much of a mission it is to get to. Have got the use of a pit which should make things easier.
