172 Dilemma

Im deciding to buy a 172 but cant decide which one to get. One of my mates had a cup and that was bloody quick and my other mate had a 172 with nice luxurys but i cant decide. please help me make my mind up.

basically i want the speed of the cup and i want the luxurys of the 172. What if i superchiped the 172. Would that make it as quick as the cup or quicker?

full exhaust and performance air filter on a 172, then chip it if you want more.

so your saying i should chip the 172 and then id be happy with it.

What im saying is the cup isnt any faster (awaits flaming) in my experience. when i had a 172 and raced it against a few cup owners the cars couldnt be seperated. There are sometimes differences between the power put out by 172 engines then when you factor in driver ability, weight of fuel, number of passengers etc then the balance can be tipped in either cars favour. As for chipping it i'd stick to having it remapped on a RR or fitting a piggyback ecu and having it set up on a RR. A "one fits all" chip is never up to much IMO.

Im not wanting to get an exhaust system. I want to get a pipercross induction kit & a superchip. That going to be enough to be as quick as a cup?

look at my old one and say its ugly ;-)
get a 172!! phase 1 0r 2 no difference speed wise between all the 172s in 'real life' lol

waits for the cup owners!

mmm get the 172 CUP :) an then add, Induction Kit, Exhaust and get it remapped ? :p no toys but more power i guess :p then i guess a 172 that has been remapped an induction kit a exh.. wont be able to beat it :)

but tbh don't it depend on driver... an how much balls u got! :p

Get the 172, in this country the weather is shite more than good, so you need ABS for sure. It will most probably save your life one day.

Is the R-sport Group N ECU RE-Flash any good.

Ive just been on bbperformancetuning.com and had a look.

Is this more beneficial then a superchip?

dont get a pipercross induction kit get eather a £30 pannel filter in your standard air box or a enclosed induction kit. the open induction kit like the pipercross will suck in hot air and lose you power over standard, but will sound good.

I went for the standard MKII 172 and am well happy with my decision. I'm not sure why you are so obsessed with it's speed and relation to the cup. If you are trying to out do your mate you would have to do some very expensive mods to make a telling difference. If you are racing round tracks go for the cup.

If you wouldn't be happy with the standard 172 performance wise for a bit then probably would suggest another car, as it's fast enough anyway ;)

I found the biggest difference between the Cup and the FF172 was the handling, not the straight line speed.

Seriously, and I mean this, thank you for saying that.

Personally, if you can get a 182, because when you come to sell it, it has an 8 not a 7. You'd be amazed how many people can't see past this.....:boring:

what has been said is the the standard 172 is going to be as fast as a cup, give or take a hundreth of a second, which you wouldnt really be able to tell unless you drove one after the other, it will still be bloody quick no matter which one you get

I do reckon the differences on the 182 make it much better looking though

I had a similar dilemma,
I wanted a cup, not too bothered about abs & cruise control & leather.. but i did want Climate Control.
(i'm gonna sound like a girl now...) i wanted the cup for the simple reason i loved the colour & the wheels :).
Then out of the blue i found a cup with Climate & thats whats on my driveway now & i'm loving it.. just gonna take it easy when the bad weather sets in! saying that, the majority of cars i have owned have not had abs & traction control anyway! (didn't have 172 horses either ;-) but hey.
