172 driveshaft problem ??

a friend of mine has got a 172 and asked for my help today. i pop over and he had the car on axle stands wheels off etc, for some reason the driver's side driveshaft is rubbing against the back of the block (gaiter obviously split in the process ). it is the same when the wheels are on and the car on the ground:S, any idea what might be wrong as im sure it doesn't sit that clsoe as standard??

only proper fix is a new driveshaft = goodbye £200

i take it the std renault item isn't anywhere near that big/close then?? either way he'll be happy lol

correct its now an internally mounted gaitor

I had that bit at the back cut off. Loads better now.

As the shaft I had from Renault split on it.

no, that end is sealed

the bolt at the top is that the 'bearing carrier' ? whats that? looks completely diffrent to a mk1
