172 engine gone tats up - help!

I was out tonight giving the clio a bit of shoe and all of a sudden the power really dropped of and the engine started making a strange noise - almost like something was rubbing. I pulled over and the engine was struggling to idle. I knocked it off and restarted it but it was only just idling then cut out and wouldn’t respond to the throttle at all. Eventually i got it going by starting it with my foot flat and managed to drive it home but there was hardly any power and between 2-3k the engine seemed to be tapping. There's no management fault light or codes, anybody got any ideas?

Yep its fine, it crossed my mind that it might be nipping up but the levels ok.

Would that be limp mode? Course that would probably coincide with all kinds of warning lights wouldnt it.

Ughh I could be wrong , but my old 1.4RT did that and it was the engine mounts

I was wondering if it could be the cat? but i wasnt sure if it would trigger the management light?
