172 Exhaust Quotes

Wonder if you could all enlighten me!

I have just been quoted £350 all in, for middle pipe and rear box on my 2001 mkII 172 and just wondered if this was about right as seems abit steep to me? Quote comes from Kwikfit so not sure if there might be cheaper places to go to.

If it's from kwik fit it won't be a proper 172 one, will be some crap thing.

That'll most likely be for a mild steel exhaust i would imagine probably with a 2 year guarantee . Your better off going for a stainless one with lifetime warranty . Try poweflow . I had one on my 172 , cost £270 fabricated and fitted , stainless cat back lifetime warranty . I couldn't fault it . It was a stealth so looked exactly liked the original .

Meant to say quote was for the standard mild steel one, oh and one other thing - having to get it done asap as half of back pipe and rear box are no longer fitted to the car - they were taken off on saturday before they fell off!
Would fit a stainless steel one if I had longer to search around.

I got one of these done at a powerflow dealer in Burnley (cheers MRBILLY) and can definately vouch for the quality. They charged me £275 for a stainless replica of the standard system. Fabricated and fitted it in an hour and a half. Theyve also got a nice warm waiting room with a swish leather sofa and a stack of mags to read while you wait.

Thanks for the replies - already use K-Tec for other bits as I live near to Verwood - unfortunatley I would be unable to drive much further than that with only half the exhaust system now on the car!

I'd still give powerflow a call if i were you . There are a couple in your neck of the woods . Personally i wouldn't entertain kwik fit or the likes especially when you can get a stainless one for similar or maybe even less money than a mild steel one .

If the exhaust has broken in the middle section then thats all you need. Rear box and middle section can be bought from Renault as seperate bits (@£120 for each I think) and then connected with a sleeve (£20). The only place I found that would do it are ATS. They did do a non genuine Renault exhaust for slightly less but I would not bother. I got a rear box and sleeve fitted for £159 and I expect a middle section and sleeve would be about the same price.

the dealer that sold my car had to replace the centre section with a new one a week after i picked up the car, unfortunately its one of they cheap shite things that quickfit etc use and its bollox, the bends are much narrower than the standard renault system meaning its loosing power over standard, really id rather have an aftermarket system that was going to GAIN me power over standard rather than loose me power, especially if it was costing just as much and going to last much longer!

I wouldn't say that. I drove from Telford to Cardiff for my exhaust, the local place were gonna charge £260 for a 'stainless exhaust', I got mine made for the car (rather than taken off the shelf) for £330. You will regret not spending the couple of quid extra. I was deaf in my left ear when I got into Cardiff...(remember the Cup has less sound-proofing!)

Update on exhaust - had cheapo kwikfit one and to say it was bad.............very cheap and nasty.
Took it back to kwikfit and the very nice guys ordered in the proper Renault ones instead and swapped them over free of charge!!!
still 3yr waranty and much quieter now - moral of story is .......um use Renault bits but at kwikfit prices!!!!!!

Moral of the story - never take a car you value to Kwik fit.

In my experince they are a bunch of cowboys who charge over the odds for things. Kwik fit - more like sh*t fit !!!

i drove 20 miles to work and back for a week once in an xr2 with only front pipe on it sounded like a dragster

got some strange looks but i had to do it as i needed to go to work and couldnt get zorst done till following week end

just drive it to powerflow/k-tec etc with no exhaust and if you get stopped tell em it just fell off
