172 extras or features

  Monaco 172
I looked at a 172 51 plate today, but i left it because i noticed that it didnt have cruise control or the little buttons or switched that are near your right knee when your sat in it.
Do all 172's have the same features ?
Do the older ones come with less features ?

I think that cruise control came along in 2003, my dads 172 (late nov 2002, 52 reg) doesn't have it. It has esp though.

Cruise control came as an option packaged in with a speed limiter. Guess you had to spec it when new. Probably cost a fortune as well. Not all that much use I think. I've trained the muscles in my right leg to keep the throttle at whatever position I choose. Magic eh?

On a more serious note, I think that if I had cruise control I'd not be concentrating as much on the road. Encourages you to "switch off" in my opinion...

ESP was added to the spec on 52 plates onward.
Cruise/Speed Limiter was added to the spec on late 53 plates.

Cruise control is a waste of time, had it on my cars for 3 years and tried 2 use it 4 times but it mad me feel like i was going to crash.
As for the ESP, the only time i find it good is in the snow, stops you from going too fast.
