172 insurance problem

  RenaultSport clio 172 mk2
Long story but basically i can get a Y reg, 2.0litre 172BHP from a family friend for next to nothing but here comes the problem...

19 years old
No no claims
Driving for 6 months
As the car is cheep i dont mind paying the extra £1000 for insurance but where do you recomend looking?

Any ideas please let me know, fell in love with the car! You know the feeling if you have one lol

Thanks

look in the back of the boy racer mags for brokers etc.
i got my best quote on my valver that way, I was 21 with nothing at all - had been driving 3 years though.

tbh you'll prob be looking at £6k or something silly.

I think you'll struggle to get the insurance for £1000. Your best bet is probably elephant.co.uk, admiral, bell direct, tesco, norwich unioun. The first three offer 10 month bonus accelerator policies which can be worthwhile for young drivers with no no claims.

Tbh ill be happy getting insurance for £2000 just cant find a company to do it that low lol:(

Looking at sites as we speak tho

Cheers

Norwich union don't touch under 25s on the 172 Cup, not sure about the FF. As previously stated, Bell and Elephant will be your best bets. Good luck.

Tesco don't discriminate against age but it will certainly cost you a lot. I got a good deal on mine through Direct Line and I'm 21, may be worth trying.

im 19 with a 182. paying £1200. but i have 2ncb.

i think ull struggle to get under £2.5k being 19 with no ncb and no driving experience.

yes they do my mate had a 1.4 rt mk1 ph3 and they charged him 2500 as my insurance on the same car with liverpool victoria was bang on 1000 cheaper.

i think he means they dont refuse to insure. if they refuse to insure someone under 21 for example .. thats discriminating.

i was 18 with no ncb and 1yrs driving experience and i got insured on a MKII golf GTi 16v for £1500, try papping ur details into confused.com, it searches loads of insurance people.

Has anyone EVER had a decent result from these Insurance comparison sites?

Currently paying £450 (protected no claims) with Direct line for a 172 CUP and the best Confused.com can manage is nearly £800..

i find confused.com to be useless and depressing tbh. tesco et al seem much cheaper for me.

  Turbos.
I've always been able to beat a Confused search.

Isn't it Directline that have an advert about rewarding existing customers? One point is that named drivers can build up NCB which is exactly what you want.

Insurance seems random as fook, i have always found good deals on elephant and confused.com the only exception was this year when i phoned privilage and got it cheaper. Confused got me insured on my BMW 530i for £460 when i was 22! 3rd party fire and theft with norwich union!

But it would be his mums car if he registered it in her name, it would also look slightly better when trying to sell it on. I don't see why they wouldn't pay out if he had an accident.

because if she has her own car, then registers this car in her name too but her son is named on it.... its obvious who drives it the most and the insurance companies are seriously cracking down on this as her son SHOULD be the owner of the car and the insurance policy holder as it is his car and he uses it the most.
the insurance companies are really doing their investigation work for these kind of things.

How could they prove that she wasn't driving it more than him and it was just unfortunate that he had an accident while driving it on a rare occasion lol!? What if people do this genuinely and the same thing happens, do they not get paid even though they are telling the truth? What I'm saying is, how would they know, and how would they prove it?

Anyway, I'm not bothered, I've got my own insurance because I want to build my own no claims, plus I don't want my mum to have an excuse to go anywhere near my car! :rasp:

^^ cause they would ask neighbours n stuff. the police do alot of the work.
plus if the mother has her own car which she drives, why would she mainly drive another car which has her son on the policy. theres no point in that so the insurance company would just argue that ..... she cant be the main driver of both cars which one of them has her son as a named driver. its too obvious.
