172 MK2 Left-hand Driveshaft oil leak

Anyone has the part number for the left hand side driveshaft gaiter? I mean the one touching the gearbox.
And is there any seal or gasket in it?? If yes, what is the part number?

Theres two parts depending on the dimension of "X" in this pic:

X=25.80 -> 77 01 470 567 GAITER D/SHAFT 28.22 ---3 x 1
X=28 -> 77 01 470 566 GAITOR D/SHAFT LE 29.33 ---3 x 1

Thats from an older version of dialogys so the part numbers might not be 100% concurrent. But its a pointer in the right direction.

looks v similar to the mk1 one

they have been known to weep oil - I used some silicone sealant to fix it. sorted.

Also, the bolts can thread the 'box very easily :dapprove:

My garage friend did helped me to fix with some sealant. But it seems it cannot 100% solve the problem.

I really want to know if there is any seal (or gasket) comes with the gaiter??

Nope no gasket or seal with it, that metal ring with the three bolts in which tightens on top of the gaiter presses the lip of the gaiter against the gearbox face creating a seal. Hence nothing else.

Thats not a general driveshaft thing, thats the part page with all the details for a Mk2 172 entered into dialogys. So both have probably been fitted at some point in production, you'll most likely have to measure it.

You need a driveshaft oil seal. Its a rubber ring with metal spring around it. Go to renault and ask for a "drive shaft oil seal for the nearside" and they will no what your talking about.

Have you had you driveshaft changed at any point? as these usually pop out or the spring around the rubber gasket sometimes snaps.

Mine is leaking at this point - is this part definately classed as a seal or is it not a CV joint?

My warranty covers the following:-

Drive Train
Drive shafts, prop-shafts, centre bearings, constant velocity joints, universal joints and couplings.

yes it should be covered as the n/s driveshaft runs wet,so that leak you have is you loosing gearbox oil,so get it sorted and you really dont want low/no gearbox oil

they are a bit of a bugger to change, its pressed on to the shaft
