172 MKII 12,000 mile, first service, ££

Going to book my car in for its first service (12,000 miles, 2 years) this week. How much am I looking at it costing me ?

Is there anything I should specifically ask them to look at ? Engine mounts ?

Also, my car has the famous 4k rattle, shall I bother asking them to look into it ? Has anyone had this problem fixed on their MKII 172 ?

LOL @ Mike ! I like the look of K-tecs hidden exhaust, dont want a big exhaust so this seems a good option. So to get rid of the 4k rattle you eed to replace the exhaust ?????

You can get a replacement centre section from Renault - itll go again though and cost more ££££. If you buy a stainless replacement (k-tec, Magnex etc etc) itll have a lifetime guarantee so at least you know youll never have to spend another penny on it.

Fair enough, when I get the beans and a new insurance company who do not cripple me with mods then I will do that ! It is not really annoying me yet but I am sure it will in time !

Just wanted to check, the car is just over 2 year old and has a 3 year warranty, if there is something that needs fixing on it that is covered by warranty, do I have to pay anything in the 3rd year of the warranty ?

I was just told today at the Renault Dealer that the new 182 has 18K servicing or 2 years!!

That might save some cash!

Ye, except they are totally wrong.. the 182 is 12,000 miles or 2 years.. just like the 172.


Everyones dealer tells them 18,000 or 2 years but they are totally wrong.. check the handbook.

My 172 cup was £163 and I got them to chck everything

The 4K rattle could just be the wiring for the lamda sensor - it was on mine they can check that in minutes

The service is 12k miles or 2 years which ever is sooner

Paid £210 for mine. Daylight robbery.

you paid 210£ for a 12k service? Its like 120£ from the Renault garage I use.

Can anyone please help me with this ? Someone must have had warranty work done in the 3rd year of their 3 year warranty, did you have to contribute to the costs at all ?

There is a list of things (my dealer has this list on the service counter) which are deemed as consumables. This includes things like clutch, exhaust etc - stuff that wears out and is generally not expected to last the life of the car. Theyll ask for a contribution for replacing these in the 2nd and 3rd years of warranty.

I am just trying to think of things that I want them to check on the car.

If the engine mounts are deemed to be faulty as many people have had with their 172s, surely that would be covered for FREE under the warranty ?

I will write them a list of things to check when it goes in. Engine mounts will be one of them even tho I do not suffer any knocking under acceleration. I will be waiting while they do the service so I will make sure they tell me what costs are involved before carrying out any work !

Can I expect to notice any difference with the car after its first service ? Some people have said that they noticed a change ?
