  RenaultSport clio 172
Just did 500 miles for work over the past two days, pretty much all motorway miles, but guess what my average MPG for this was - 44.1mpg!!

Im Staggered!

ive given the golf some b*****d over the past week or so and ive managed over 50mpg.. no motorway miles mostly town driving so ner ner :)

When i joined i was looking for a 182 but ended up buying a 172, couldnt justify the extra money and hated the cup suspension!

To be fair i was only doing between 60/70 all the way but still well impressed, and it was comfortable the whole way!

50mpg is good for a mk3 golf, is it diseasel?

I was expecting you to have actually managed 172mpg!

44.1 mpg isn't impressive at all. Easy to get 44mpg if you're steady :rasp:

Had 52mpg from an 80 mile journey once.

Same here as well

29-31 on Xtra Urban.

Best i've had on any kind of run is around 35.

I'm staggered at numbers above 40mpg!

I guess I need a realy long, steady run. Going Blackpool Xmas Eve. That's a 300mile round trip so will see if I can reach the breathtaking heights of 40mpg+ then lol.

I honestly dont know mine, but I think its around the 35 mark.....That to me is shocking for a 1.2.

Best I've had was 41 mpg on a 500 mile round trip (Dover<->Grimsby). The Renault trip computer miscalculates though I think and the true mpg is 1-2 mpg less than stated.

Dont know if it makes a difference but mines a FF Phase2 (heavier than yours) it was at night so had the lights on, had heater on about 21 degrees and had radio at full blast! The temparature was about 7 degrees too so the engine would be sapping a bit more fuel than in the summer!

Doubt that I could ever get 52mpg, were you doing 30mph all the way?

My FF172 did 44mpg at the end of a 200mile round trip to the NEC Bike Show the other week, and that was sat a 80mph.

I normally average 36-38mpg, going to and from work, 35ish on weekends.

My mate's X Plate 1.8T Golf struggles to reach 30mpg.

  Clio 1.4 16v Billabong
When i went to see my nan in frinton on sea, 263 miles (about 5 hours 57 mins) from where i live i was getting 41mpg in a 1.4 16v. I was following my step dad in his scooby he was getting 22mpg an below. I thought this was good so im now confused. How much do you get round towns etc.

  RenaultSport clio 172
I usually do a mix of 30% town, 40% A road, 30% B road and get around 37mpg!

When i had my zetec fiesta (1.25) i was always revving the nuts off it to get anywhere and the mpg was worse than my 172!

I did London to Newcastle and averaged 40.1 doing a steady 85-95 where appropriate. So very chuffed with that. However, going through rush hour traffic between Newcastle and Sunderland everyday hass seen it drop to 31.1 - but then again I do have a tendency to put my foot down a little when nothing is about 172's are far to much fun!!!

  My trusty lil 182 :)
Jeez. my trip computer rarely gets over 25mpg!! Granted I see a fair amount of traffic buts just gives me more reason to put me foot down when the road clears.

Sometimes get 33-35 on a very long steady journey but rare.

  Clio 172 mk2
I've had 46mpg on a motorway run before sitting at around 75/80

Not bad at all for a petrol performance hatchback:)

It's quite strange how everyone's clio are differrent. Have people considered mods and what petrol they use?

I m using shell optimax at mo, anyone else running thsi fuel?

Always have used it, always will.

I routinely get over 40mpg from mine, and on a long run to the Airfield early one sunday morning, I averaged 48mpg - and I wasn't hanging around either!

How much fuel you use all depends on your planning and anticipation.

Well i decided after filling up on Monday evening that i would try and see just how far i could go on the one tank of V-Power, so extra-conservative (and mind numbingly boring) driving.

Managing about 42.9 at the moment but thats without pushing it over 3000rpm...yawn!
But i can still manage about 35-37 mpg usually so not being able to manage 30mpg seems madness!
Im not a slow driver but i don't wring its neck 24/7...

Some drivers are very Bore and Brake thats prob why their mpg is so low! I am also not a slow driver at all but you have to be smooth and predict the roads to care for your car and get the best mpg!

Not Bad Either Way To Say I Am Getting 25-30 From My 182,
What The Hell Its Fun Drivin It No Matter How Much It Burns

Suppose its all about when you drive it too, if there werent so many ruddy cars on the road then i would drive it to its full potential, might drop my 9-5 and get shift work!

Agree with that totally, If you anticipate things like red lights and cars pulling out etc, you rarely get into the 20's. I average 32 mpg every week with mostly urban driving. Got an average of 40mpg yesterday going up to luton airport and back and that was with a few full throttle prods.
