hi guys, 172 is staying off the road for the next 4 or 5 months (ill be doing a lot to it during this time!) all im wondering is what i should do to protect it? it will have a nice couple of coats of wax to protect from the elements and ill be able to take it the odd run around my private land to make sure the brakes etc dont bind, but is there anything else i should do? what about a car cover are they worth it?

cheers,
martin

Depends, car covers on cars kept outside can do quite a lot of damage if they're allowed to move around on the paintwork when it's windy, because the rubbing can damage the paint if the material isn't up to it. You can get them with sheepswool linings and the like and that's obviously much better.

No cover at all will be better than a cheap cover.

Think about a trickle charger for the battery. I use a CTEK one which is really good.

cool guys, couple of my mates are looking at getting a lockup for the cars over winter so might be able to chip in for something like that, although i dont like leaving it anywhere but my driveway where i know where it is lol

  Lots of Alfas
Cover the wheels if left outside, rust on the discs over time jams the brakes on. I should warn you renaults dont like being driven for a long time. Shouldnt run into too many problems tbh if only 5 months.

Trickle charger is definitely a good idea.

I'd either just leave it, or give it a good run every month. Leaving it idling will do no good.

Leave the handbrake off too, just leave it in gear.

For 5 months? I should think not:rasp:. Decent car cover, trickle charger, short drive once in a while.
