172 overreving

When coming to a stop my engine revs quite high about 1500 - 200 rpms.

When i blip the throttle it returns to norma until i stop again.

Has anyone come across this problem before and how do i correct it.

Mine (1500 miles on clock) wont settle down to 700rpm at idle until it is warm. I have a panel filter on.

Done 37000 mile with cda induction kit.

Been fitted over 10000 mile a go but now its just started this and does it even when warm.

sounds like the ICV, built into thr TB iirc

check obvious things like is the throttle linkage including cable and pedal are all free and not sticking.if thats ok then probably a idle valve fault.part of the throttle body on a mk1 and not avaliable separatly.

My mates mk1 172 was doing this and it was simply the throttle cable & linkage being a bit stiff...

We lubricated it all and that cured it, but the cable snapped a few weeks later so Id check that!

ive had a few where the pedal was sticking in its pivot bracket.

Linkage had moved now back in place seems to be sorted now
