172 PH2 HIDs (non cup)

  Leon FR - Clio Sold.
Hello,

Can anyone tell me if this is easy to do? Looking at getting some 4300 or 6000k. I have 2 ballasts already so I just want to know if I can get the bulbs and fit them.

Also what bulb type is the 172 PH2?

Kind thanks in advance.

I was wondering if I could change the factory xenons to a different colour temp. IE 6000k for arguments sake if a bulb blew and I have a spare HID kit could I swap the xenons over to the HIDs easily enough?

Oh So I can use the 172 Ballasts and just buy those bulbs in the link above? Is the Clio's dipped beam Xenons and the full beam are they halogens? Could I fit HIDs in the Full beam?

You wont want HIDs in the full beam, the xenons aren't designed to be turned on + off quickly/repeatedly. It would shorten they're lives and it takes a while for the xenons to turn on when you pull the stalk (e.g when you flash someone to let them across) which could get annoying.

But if you really wanted to, it is possible.

I was just wondering if its possible... I had HIDs in my old astra in my Angel eyes but the full beam were halogens and really poo. How do the new cars do it? Like BMW and stuff? Do they have xenons in the full beam. Have they made something that flashes the bulb quicker or something?

I know my dads old merc had HIDs on his full beam, Im not too sure how they worked though, theyre projector lens was different to the dipped beam.

EDIT: maybe they weren't HIDs, but it definitely had a projector lens for its full beam, and mercedes being mercedes wouldn't put it there without a reason.

I was also wanting to get some HIDs for my full beam, like the focus STs and bmws etc.. mainly because i find my full beam s**t.

Guess your right about thw warming up part vut i wonder how others do this?

Yeah he is right I have had HIDs and they do take a few seconds to warm up when you turn them on. Tis a shame... Wonder if theres a HID like bulb we could use to flash up instant... Xenons and HIDs are just so much brighter than the halogens.
