172 Rep.

  Renault Clio GT 1.6
Had my clio coming up to a year now, is my first car and was a bad buy tbh.
love the car but not the one i bought. came with a awful body kit and a rather large exhaust. on the plus side ive got the entire sport interior :D

basically i love the sports but obviously cant get insured on them at the age of 19 without coughing up some serious wedge for the insurance. so only option i can see is making mine a replica.

would have to be a complete job, as would need front/rear bumpers, skirts & wings.
went down to a scrappy today to try and get a rear bumper but the bloke had advertised it wrong and turned out to be a standard bumper :dapprove:

sorry for the questions but this is my first car and im in love with the cars. been looking for the parts for a few weeks now but havnt come up with anything really. dno if anyone has any tips for looking for the parts and how much the parts would be? again sorry for the questions but would very much like a change in appearance for my car as atm it is a state ha :) cheers

im pretty sure it would be a hell of a lot cheaper to put it back to standard as the parts are far more common and therefore cheaper

yeah i was going to as i already have the standard front bumper/grill but i just prefer the look of the sport so much the only way id be happy with my car now is if it was either a sport or looked like one haha :) ive found parts for the sport, just not black which is so much hassel because they have nothing wrong with the paintwork but id still have to get em re-sprayed :/

ive just got all my stuff back from being sprayed at the bodyshop as im in the same boat as you mate, luckily for me a friend of mine has a entire sport kit going he wanted rid of so i got that off him, i would say your best bet is to keep and eye out for indivdual parts on here and on ebay, your never going to ber able to buy it as a job lot, and i dont even want to think about how much renault would charge you if you were to go to them and try and get a kit. Heres the kind of prices i think you would be looking at

Front bumper and rear bumper: varies between 80 - 130 depending on cond. each
Wings: bout 80 - 100
Skirts 70 - 90

just rough prices for you to get an idea. Its also worth bearing in mind that if you are no good with a spray gun your going to want to get this kit sprayed by a profesional in a workshop, this will also set you back a nice sum of money, so its definitely something to consider. But definitely worth it, so happy with mine

another thing you might have to consider is the cost of a cup spoiler if your wanting as these are pretty expensive, but if your cars atm has one of those crappy little black spoilers like mine came with id recomend just getting a dynamic spoiler and colour coding
hope this helps

you do mention insurance though, if your going to declare that your car looks like a sport, id expect the insurance may be similar anyway, buy the sport !

tbh if your insured third party on a rep like i am i wouldnt bother telling insurance, well i havent. they are all standard parts just off a different model, ive sprayed my lowering springs black to make em look standard and havent slammed it to the ground, ive also got a stealth exhaust which again sounds nice buts looks standard. but if you were to declare everything it would be alot less expensive than buying a sport

cheers for the rough prices :) atleast now i know sorta what im looking at. and ive found a silver kit basically but i would have to spray it all. but his charging 200 for just the front bumper :| see if i could get a deal on the lot? and yeah atm not sure what spoiler ive got but i know ive got one on haha. i dont think the size difference between em all apart from the trophy/v6 ones are much different. will look every day for the parts but if anyone is selling anything on here pm me :) cheers for the advice guys. fingers crossed to get this project under way asap :)

found rear bumper for £100 but not the same colour so would need respraying, also found front bumper for £199... which i fink is abit too much? and that would need respraying as not the same colour. same bloke is selling wings but guess again... would need respaying. think this is the only option as ive been looking for close to a month for these parts now even thou i werent 100% on the replica idea. would cost me about £380 on the parts not sprayed and without the skirts? people think i should do this???

I was thinking of doing the same as you, but now i see it as a waste of money tbh. As Jimbo said, it will never be 'right'

Im just putting a 172 spoiler on mine, RS grill, lowered 40mm & rear 172 bumper when i can find one!

HTH :)

My old car was a rep. I always wanted a sport, but then got 3 points for speeding so couldnt afford the insurance. I then went down the REP route and it came to about 400 for all the parts and spraying. Was the best £400 i spent on my car. Made it look so much better and i loved it for the 18 months i had it.

Dont listen to all the people on here who says its a waste of money. If you really want to do it. Just do it!

Heres some pics of my old rep.
