172 replacement element

  Clio 172 Ph2

Now that I have my Dastek Unichip, Im thinking about having a rolling road session testing the standard airbox against one with an aftermarket element and then again against the viper.

Im not sure which (ones?!) to get in terms of aftermarket elements. So far I have only found these 2. Anyone know of any more?

Anyone who wants to watch can! Ill probably get it done at Millways this friday (afternoon). That is of course if they can fit me in and I get the element (whichever one I decide to buy) by then.

unless you want noise, id stick with the std airbox, put a replacement filter in e.g. itg, green, bmc for about £40. While youre at it move the airbox, remove the air feed hose at the bottom of it and replace with a 50mm hose going behing the lower front grille. put the standard airbox back in. That solution will probably give you most power/torque. I would imagine viper/bmc may give fractionally more power at WOT, but you will lose low end torque.

Well I must admit, I do kinda like the roar of the viper. Not only that, it seems a shame to have spent 200 odd quid on it and not actually have it in the car!

Im guessing the element supplied by BB Performance Tuning is the Green one? So out of the two (Pipercross and Green), which would you go for?

Telford_mike, obviously you went for the pipercross....any particular reason for that?

No particular reason at the time. There was a scarcity of elements for the Mk2 for a while and the Pipercross was one of the first to become available. On a recent RR session my car made 158bhp at the wheels (approx 188 at the flywheel) - only other relevant mod is a Magnex full system.

Yeah that is the exact figure mine got a couple of days ago - well, the 188 bit anyway. I just used the standard airbox / filter.

I have the same exhaust as you too. :)

personally id go for Green, because of the way there made you get maximum surface area compared to all the other cotton gauze elements

thing is, if your comparing it to the Viper, then you could get a Pipercross one, that way, the filter medium will be identical and its only its housing and size that is different
