172 - Squeaky 3rd and 5th gear

Hi All,

My Mk2 172 has developed an annoying problem: there is a squeaking noise coming from the gearbox/directly under the car when putting it into 3rd or into 5th gear.

I dont have any trouble engaging the either gear (dont have to force it etc). Just the annoying squeak!

Car has done 52K - original gearbox and clutch.

Any idea what this squeaky noise might be?

forgot to say, it only squeaks when engaging either 3rd or 5th. It doesnt squeak under normal driving while not changing gear.
