172 starting problems...

Right, the GF has a ph-2 172... as of recent it has been suffering from starting problems.

Key in ignition, turn, let the fuel pump prime, start engine, fires up.. then cuts out immidentally?

You try to restart and the starter motor keeps turning over, but no ignition?

Try again and will start (with blipping and holding the throttle), but let off and the car will not hold idle... starts to drop revs and then will cut out again!

When driving the car will be very erratic at low revs and sometimes cut out once sat at idle again?


BUT.... On other occasions will start up fine with no problems at all, and drive normal, not a hint of any problems??? :S

Battery is fully charged, new plugs fitted 6K ago etc.

I am thinking Lamba sensor, TDC related perhaps?


Any suggestions CS?

Does sound like TDC........whats the immob light doing on the dash when it cranks over but dosent fire?

If its not the immob then i'd go with TDC alllllll day long.
