172 To Mk2 V6...

As above.

Thinking about getting a Mk2 v6 in the new year, not sure if I'm going to keep the 172 (more likely SORN it) or just sell it!

People that have gone from 172s to v6s (Ali etc) what if anything do/have you missed?
Practical issues aside, as it will just be a weekend toy.

Thanks Fletch :)

Do it! Love em!! Must be a MK2 as said though :)

Oh, and keep the Trendlines :)

  Better than yours. C*nt.
I <3 my Vee. Where the Trophy was an entertaining car, the Vee is just pure silliness. I giggle all the time whilst driving it, it's an immense work of engineering. It's a car that you can drive normally and chill out in, yet you can bang it in second and wheelspin all the way up to 60 for a laugh and be a complete tosser (conditions and local population permitting!). Engine sounds fantastic and whilst mine was only marginally quicker flat out than SteBurns, it's soooo much quicker when 'driving' due to the massive torques in comparison.

It's like all the best bits of the 1*2, made a million times better IMO.

Good stuff, I quite fancy something silly for the weekends TBH.

I really want one but
1. I couldn't insure one yet (20)
2. £12k is a lot for a 5 year old clio. :( (I guess they wont depreciate much though)
3. Servicing and tyres etc is going to be a fair whack more than a 1*2.

1 - Oh yes. At 24 in a nice area I'm on the sharp end of an £800 bill.
2 - It's not too bad - stop thinking of it as a Clio and more as a £30k supercar. Whilst it's pace isn't as good as a 'true' supercar, it's epic fun.
3 - Oh yes. Belt service is twice as much as the 2 litre, tyres are £200 a pop. And the fronts are NLA.

If going for a silly 2nd car, £15k-ish, there's better options imo.

I'm 28 now so Insurance, running costs aren't really a issue.

Whereabouts you from?

I live between Winchester, and Southampton Mike.

Warren, I know you can get faster cars etc, but I've got a v6 scratch to itch first ;)

Fair enough! Not my bag, but I see the appeal. I'd just be worried about being like Mike;)

Ah, not particularly close to Warwick or Bourne End then - how bad a journey is Bourne End/Marlow? As I can find many an excuse to pop there in it if you wanted a shot in one first.

driving experience wise the V6 is special, its not about the speed yada yada yada, its just "special" own one and live with one and you'll get where i'm coming from

If you can do it, do it !

Yeah that's what I'm thinking I quite fancy a bit of RWD action.

We shall see mate....

I will probably keep the old girl too
Don't think that as it's RWD it'll be fun etc, you can't do anything them really. They are nothnig like say, an M3.

12k for a mk2 will put you at the bottom of the scale. Looking at 14k upwards for a nice lower mileage, low owner one. With the belts done.

I did/have looked at getting some ITB's-supercharger for the 172, but I don't want to spend much more money on it.

Yes mate, if i do get a Vee i'll take you out for a blast.

This. Speak to theduck/the little guy at the WM meet (sorry!) or theduck's Mrs - it is quick (deceptively so) but not groundbreaking, it's the whole package - the noise, the ride, the being pushed rather than dragged everywhere... Just an undescribable feeling! IMO anyway. There are people that disagree and that's fair enough - it's definitely an acquired taste as some people get more excited about flat-out ability or other aspects of cars, so one that you need to try IMO.

Mike can I have a go in your vee ?

(Come now so I can try it in the snow)

:D

Lol! No, had a pop in it the other day driving out of Birmingham when it was wet and very very cold and it wanted to be sideways everywhere. Not so much in a bad way, but it was definitely in a 'playful' mood. Maybe something to do with leadfooting in 2nd gear off roundabouts, but hey!

Cool, well if you do decide to have a go just give me a shout and I'll get the coffees on!

Cheers fella, will do hopefully somewhen in the new year! :D

And if you need convincing of the noise...

The three months so far haven't been particularly cheap, but the majority of it is me wanting to get stuff done and out of the way. ~£5k now I've had the bill from Fred!

Fletcher, good man, also - if you can, get a rare coloured one, Illiad is nice (I would say that) but it's the most common on the mk2's, but it's still a nice colour.

  Clio v6
Whilst my 172 was a fun wee thing, I became bored quickly with it. The v6 is just so very different, so much that I wonder why Renault called it a Clio. I guess "Renaultsport Ulimate Experience Of A Lifetime" is perhaps a bit too long. ;)

Do your homework well, then decide.

You will not look back if you get one.

I went from Vee to 182, 2 months later I went back.

Epic cars :)

The only thing I missed about the 172 was the fact that I could park it anywhere & not be too worried about it! Was paranoid about leaving the vee anywhere.

U will also miss having money in your wallet LOL

If you can afford it then go for it!!!!

I will be buying another vee when the time is right, still cant think of another sub 20k car I would sooner own!
