172 track project

  Clio 172
Hi I'm thinking about garaging my 172 and keeping it as a project for track use only with the intention of putting it back on the road in the future. Is weight shedding the best place to start with this? and what can I take out to get my car as light as possible. I already have plans for coil overs, better brakes, braided brake lines, de cat pipe with exhaust system, etc etc. I have also noticed that the megane 225 is the same engine. does anybody know whether the internals of the engine are the same because the turbo off it is also an idea that I have had and what else would be needed to turbo it? I already know about manifold, would it be wise to put an intercooler on to? Any information would be much appreciated thanks.

You can have great fun in a lightly modified clio on track, no need to strip everything out and render it unusable on road.

I think it would proberly be cheaper to buy a turbo kit for the engine you have rather than make one from megane bits and aftermarket bits mate. I think people have done the transplant but its stupidally hard and expensive i think theres a 197 with it done knocking around somewere.

As tony sais decent brakes
coilovers or decent springs and shocks if budget is tight
Decent tyres!

If you can afford to go hardcore then gut the lot! and go down the route of input - output tunning and see how it goes

Thanks that's what I was going to do just gut the lot. I only fitted a set of proxeys about 200 mile ago and i was going to fit coilovers. I don't mean to sound stupid but what's input - output tuneing?
