172 trans problem

Hey everyone

The bloke that owns my old 172 now has been having some problems with the transmission. It feels like the syncro in 3rd gear is broke so it makes some noise when changing fast into 3rd.

Has anyone else had this problems with the transmission in his 172? Renault is going to give him a new tranny so its not a matter of money.

Only when hes racing it

Could be down to him not being able to change gear properly.

tell him to try depressing the clutch

All the time... its not uncommon for gearbox problems on the 172 & Cup!

My mates mk1 172 crunches like a mailto:b@stard">b@stard when you change to 3rd and it;s the synchromesh thats gone.

changed quite a few synchro rings and gears for the same problem.
