172 tyre longevity.

my cars done 14k and have just swapped the front for back as there was only 2mm left, backs like new though. This is the original set. How long have others lasted (contis)

My front tyres were changed at 9500 miles by the previous owner, now I am on 12000 miles and there is still plenty left yet.

Got some trackdays coming up tho so who knows how long that will last.

My first set of Contis were completely knackered at 6k, and Ive never really done any better since - now been through 4 or 5 sets.

Gay and back end in one sentence? Wheres Rob?

i like girls...

edit: on a serious note it means your going to have to replace 4 tyres instead of 2 next time round??

I got through 6 tyres by 20K, so my car has now on its 10th tyre lol

Bad move swapping the fronts for the backs..

I think there was a test on 5th gear once where they swapped tyres on a wet slalom track.....ice skate city!

My 172 has dunlops on when I bought the motor, but I got some Yokos A539 waiting to go on :)

Yet me repeat it again DONT swop the tyres round.

The Clio is a little ligt at the back so needs to best grip possible there.

If you stick the tyres round you may find yourself swopping ends comming out of bends which isnt fun or cheap.

There has been tests carried out that the best stopping potential is new all round (obviously) but the second best is new on the back and lower grip on the front.

defo dont swap, and iirc i changed the fronts at about 18k, but i dont rag it everywhere(just on cliosport meets)! i seem 2 remember silverrsc telling me he was on his fourth set @6k!

Depends on your preference really. Theres a school of thought that says front-drive cars work well if you can dial in a bit of oversteer - knackered rear tyres are a good recipe for this!

*edit* on track anyway

Yep it would be interesting to try on a track for sure. Not a good idea to try on a famously dangerous road (thats what the recovery driver said). I was sort of pushing to hard though.

Cost me over £1k and the insuracne company just over £3k from my cheapness not to get some new tyres on the car. Even worse I could have afforded to replace the tyres.

I hope you all learn from my lesson. Im an idiot dont go try and save buying some new tyres just cos you dont drive hard you might think your ok, but you may need to brake to hard one day. Its that one day you loose it that all you can think about until you stop is your cheapness.
