172 wheels on a 1.2

My brother has just bought a Clio 1.2, I have a spare set of Mk1 15" 172 OZ wheels which I am going to give him, anyone know of any problems in doing this, as its just a 1" step up I figure it should be fine unless the offset is miles out?

I fitted the new 172 wheels which are 16" on my 1.2. The offset is different. The tyre rubbed on the back arch liners but was not to bad. Prob will fit but just check for clearance after fitting.

If it rubs at the back like they do with the 16" wheels you need 5mm spacers.

The offsets for Mk1 and Mk2 172 alloys are different, I think the 15" Mk1 alloys would be a closer match for a 1.2.

Mk1 172 offset: 43

Mk2 172 offset: 48

I have Mk2 172 alloys on my 1.2, and needed 5mm spacers on the back wheels to stop them rubbing. That 5mm would make the wheels the same offset as Mk1s.
