172 won’t start after stereo install!!

**HELP**

Disconnected the battery whilst fitting my car stereo yesterday. When all was finished went to start the car and there is no sound from the fuel pump!! (the electric whining noise you get as you set the key to the second position). It would appear to be the immobiliser however this apears to be disarmed when you put the key in the ignition. Its being towed off by my mechanic mate today because we spent 4 hours in my mates workshop trying to get it going again!! the car will tick over and fire but just wont catch. (yes I have petrol!!)

We are 99% sure its to do with the Immobiliser but have exhausted all routes save disconnecting it (Which is difficult as the unit is positioned under the passenger airbag!!)

Any ideas?

This will sound a bit obvious, but did you check the fuse box???

dunno anythin bout the 172 but its worth checking the fuel cut off switch if there is one?

Yup it was the fuel cut off switch!! something called an inertia switch that cut off the power to the fuel pump when I disconnected the battery. All it took was for me to press it back in again and hey presto the car started.

That took us 12 hours to work out though!

lmao, i had the same problem i Called the f**king AA out!!! I was fitting my amp with my m8 he accedently pressed the red button, which is the fuel cut of switch right next to my battery. He didnt tell me, and he went home. So when i tried to start my car the dam thing didnt start, called the AA out and they saw it staight away! luckly they laughed and probably mocked me behind my back! its all good tho

i had a story like this when i was fittign a HU and spkrs in someones mk2 fiesta. To get the old one out (it was wedged in) we actually had to take the dash out, and when it was all done and put back together we turned her over and got nothing! completely dead, not even turning over.

We took the dash off twice more, checked we hadnt cut any wires, then i called him and was about to tell him wed f**ked his car up when he reminded me hed made a DIY immobiliser disguised as the front fog switch!
