172kangoo

  Kangoo 172
Hi all new here although not new to the Clio sport life. At the beginning of the year I decided to strip my Ph1 track car down as it was getting a bit rusty, I thought this would be a great excuse to create a kangoo 172. After a quick search and a short trip to Birmingham I was the new owner of an 06 kubistar with 211k in the clock.

I decided to go for the kubistar as it has electric windows and mirrors. It also has the clear indicators in the headlights and a side door. This was the spec I wanted and was cheap too.

I’ll get some more pics of the build on here over the next couple of days.

I used the Clio float but bent the wire so it sat correctly in the tank and gave correct reading on gauge.
I did try that, but gave up after 5 mins of fiddling. Will have to sort it soon as playing fuel roulette isn't as much fun as it sounds.

First day of ownership and no. 1 job on the list was to ditch the steels and 50p hubcaps for F1’s.

No. 2 job was to fit new gaz front coil overs and pms top mounts.

As yet I’ve left the torsion bar due to corrosion, doubt it’ll come apart without the use of a disc cutter. I will be ordering a recon unit from IM axles this month hopefully.

  Whichever has fuel
I bought one from IM Axels and once fitted, my mate lowered it in about 15 minutes. 100% worth the money given how rusty they get.

Here’s some pics of the engine removal and strip down.

Still need to sort the front camber but at least it now goes down the road straight.

To do list is slowly getting shorter, all up and running however the clutch is slipping at high revs I think the friction plate may have oil on it from the thermostat removal. No biggie really just a shame I’ll have to pull the box out again.

Some pics after a clean and polish, still needs the rear beam swapping so forgive the rake!

So the Kubigoo 172 is coming along nicely now, I had to adjust the aux belt as I was getting a screech sometimes after start up. I’m using Volvo brackets and the kangoo steering pump & pulley so was easier to remove the bonnet to do.

Ive ordered up the bits to do the rear disc conversion and once that’s done it should be ready for mot.
Here’s a couple more pics of how it sits atm.

Hey all 👋🏻 ticked some more bits off the to do list, fuel float now sorted so fuel gauge is working properly.

Fitted the recon rear beam from IM along with the rear discs. Abs wiring was interesting as I had to extend the cable to the nsr. Have ordered some 16mm rear spacers due to the 25mm causing the tyres to catch on the arches over bumps, will also get some gaz rear shocks from a valver on order.

Rear end now lower, decontamination, wash and wax done. Few pics after a hard couple of days work on the kubigoo 172.

Still love these, gutted I sold mine but keep looking at FB Marketplace at them. Even a drop on decent wheels sets these off.

I really don't need a van. Not at all. But by christ, I'd have one of these 😂

  Kangoo 172
So it’s been a while but here’s a compacted update, after the clutch and sump gasket refresh the Kubigoo 172 managed a grand total of 73 miles before the brand new Renault water pump decided it didn’t want to do one of its primary jobs which is to not leak. It wasn’t pissing out but I’m not risking it leaving me stranded in a cloud of steam with handfuls of con rod.

That’s now sorted with another brand new pump and gasket.

Great news... or so I thought, another 56 miles completed and the power steering pump begins groaning 😤 fantastic, pullover to check and the high pressure line has emptied its contents just after the sensor. No photos for this one but I ordered the Advocult kit and so far so good. It’s a great setup and easy to fit, worst part of the job by far is removing the old high pressure line.

Anyhow all back in one piece, running spot on. It’s getting regular use on dog and DIY duties.

Today’s major update is the new addition of an eBay purchase Ph1 exclusive alloys. Quick run over to Peterborough this afternoon to collect and thrown them on before losing the light.

Terrible pics but I’ll get out this weekend hopefully for a clean and some decent snaps.

Excuse my lack of kangoo knowledge, but what is that thing on the inner wing near the drivers top mount.
In the pics under the bonnet, its got a yellow handle thing on it. Looks like some kind of cowboy wheel brace

Its oem kangoo wheel brace. Good old renault fitting it in a daft position.

Update time, have had to raise the front up a bit as the tyres have been scrubbing on the arches going round bends and over bumps. This has been my first chance to inspect the coilovers since fitting and thanks to the coilover covers all is well and as new underneath them.

Whilst there I fitted new front calliper sliders as one on either side had seized, state of the old ones!! No idea how long they’ve been like that.

And to hopefully cure a slight misfire I fitted four new injectors.

Short test drive proved that the hard work was worth it, no more scrubbing and no misfire either, also hit a slight milestone

Still a few more little jobs to sort but the Kubigoo 172 is now a pleasure to drive.

Jobs left on my to do list
