182 Aux and cambelt advice.

Hi all,

Ive had my 182 since new so 13 years or so. With it being a second car it doesn't get that much use but I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Being on 40k and having all the belts done at 26k in 2013 its only done 14k miles since they were last done.

I was planning on having all the belts done last month when it went in for a service but they couldn't fit it in at the time being a big job.

I can't see the car doing anymore than 3k until its next service next year. Should I wait until next years service to get them both replaced as am I correct in thinking its 5year intervals?

Thanks

Personally I don't see it as a problem leaving it another 12 months / 3k miles and get all the belts done together. It's 5 years for both the belts , 72k miles for Cambelt etc.... and 36k miles for the Aux belt etc..........

Aux belt is 3 years and seems to cause more failures than the cambelt.

Most cam belt snaps I've read of were due to the aux belt snapping and wrapping around the crank.

I used to think that it was 3 years for the Aux belt , but according to the service book its 5 years or 36K , whichever comes first .

Aux belt has never been 3 years on any documentation from Renault that I've ever seen, just people on here think it's 3 years.

Personally I'd wait until 5 years.

Pretty sure Renault changed it to 3 years due to premature failures.
Could be wrong but I'm sure I read it somewhere

Just had a little read and it looks like they changed it from 72k to 36k but time is still 5 years.

My bad

Totally correct.
If you want to play safe on the Aux, every 24K if you are doing the miles, otherwise 60 months is fine.

I've seen it mentioned so many times on here over the years that it's a 3 year interval it became a popular misconception.

I started a thread asking what it was a few years ago, no one had anything to say 3 years, and a lot of well known specialists on here all said it was 5 years 36k, I think it's just the fact most people do 36k in 3 years.

Proof.

  dan's cast offs.
i've seen the pivot on the tensisoner cease up after under 12 months!! it can be stripped and sorted out, takes about 5 minutes once it's off the car.

two checks, visual condition of the belt, especially the ribbed side and pull on the belt a few times and make sure the tensioner is moving freely.
