182 CAT options

I'm currently looking at cat options as i'd like to ditch my decat for a bit. I'm using my 182 to commute to work again now, and will probably be for the foreseeable future.

I'm reluctant to buy another second hand 182 cat, as the prices are a bit silly, and there getting old now.

So been looking at sports cat options.

Ktec do a 182 sleeved cat for £240, but I've seen some pretty bad reviews on these, and they only offer a pretty crappy 6 month warranty

Pure Motorsport offer a CAT for there exhaust system, which i believe will fit, but this is £370. Though comes with a 2 year warranty.

Other options from the main exhaust manufactures are around £450-500, which is way too expensive.

I've also been weighing up buying an universal Sports Cat from Magnaflow and having this welded in, or just going to an exhaust shop and having something made up by them.

I may evening just buy a cheapo replacement cat for around £60-70 for mot time and have a centre box added to my exhaust. But this will mean i still need to mess around come MOT time.

Does anyone know of any other options or would like to offer some advise?

  dan's cast offs.
I've got a cheap £50 cat I use for mots, passed fine and been on plenty of different cars.

Personally id go with the Pure cat or as @bloke says.
Get a cheap Cat with a pair of flanges fitted and a centre box with the same flanges fitted to the same dimensions. Then its just a case of 4 nuts/bolts come MOT time.
If youre wanting something even slicker. Buy a pair of V-bands and have it on V band clamps. That means no gaskets or flanges come MOT time.

I have been running a ktec sports cat on my 172 cup for a while went through MOT fine in September and had no issues with it. Made an extra 1bhp on the dyno last week 😂 surely worth the money

Well the PMS CAT isn't a direct fit, as my system is a 2.25" system and the CAT is 2.5", but that's fairly easy to sort with a reducer. It just looks like the cat is kinked slightly. But i'm guessing if the exhaust system works with a standard Cat, then the sports cat should line up.

This was my original plan, when the Clio was a second car. I'm considering keeping the Cat in place full time now though, so don't really want a cheapo one in there for fear it breaks up and causes damage.

Have been using this for a long time with the PMS exhaust simple fit nice and small works well

This is what i was looking at. They seem to get pretty decent reviews for performance too, and if it did fail it'd be cheap to replace.

Is the 2.5" the internal dia for these. I'm wondering if i could clamp a 2.5" decat pipe to either side for ease (or at least temporarily).

I read a post on here yesterday of one failing after 700 miles of use. and with the limited 6 month warranty, I'm not sure it's worth £240 + postage

Why do you want to run with a CAT in place now you're commuting? Just keep going with the current setup?

It's just too loud every day for an hour each way to be honest. If it was fun driving then it'd be fine, but 95% of my journey is either bumper to bumper queuing or 40-50mph roads with average speed camera. it's a little over 20 miles.

I've had 182's before with decats, and they've not been that loud, but this system seems to make a big difference for some reason, probably due to it being the non silenced centre section..... I do love it to be honest, so will be keeping the decat for future use, as my intentions are to keep this 182 for a good number of years.

I actually purchased and fitted a cup rear bench and parcel shelf last weekend, and that has helps quite a bit (it doesn't sound as raspy now though, which i liked before). I'm just looking to reduce it a little more.

Had the same issue. Go to an exhaust specialist and get a centre section put in. Makes a great difference. https://cliosport.net/threads/2004-182-cup-rb.827766/#post-11815582

Cheers mate, that does sound like it's made a big difference. Is that still running with the decat?

I'm going to get the CAT sorted first and work from there. If i end up getting a centre box, i'll have to have a full replacement pipe added, as I'll intend to revert back once i can have another daily.

Yeah, still running decat. Night and day of difference especially around 70mph. Before I couldn't of had a conversation it was so loud.

I bought cheap cat from flea bay can't remember how much I paid for it. It was for mot due to decat. Also changed from scorpion to janspeed at the same time. That was 6months ago and it's used as a daily with no issues to report. Roughly 5-6k covered.

I changed my cat at 243000km to a universal stainless 100 cat I used a decat which was cut and the cat welded in it's been like that for about 2yrs now no issues including Rego(MOT in Aus) which really enforced here there's a big fine if your caught without a cat.
