182 climate/aircon question

  Clio 182
Hi, first thing in the morning when i set off to work (5.30am) as you can imagine it is a bit nippy outside, the outside temp gauge usually reads about 6c.
I set my heater on auto and set the temp to 23c, but what i have noticed is that if i press the screen de-mist button the blower and air con will come on which according to the book is correct, but then when the screen is clear and i press the screen button again i have found that the air con light is seems to stay on unless i go from auto back to manual which i can't understand because if the temp out side is so cold...why does the aircon stay on?? does anyone elses does this?
I had my car in for the 12k service last week and i mentiond it to the technician who said it was normal and showed me a 172 they had in and sure enough it did exactly the same.

^^ correct - it's not just to cool the air down, it's normally on all the time when the 'auto' mode is selected.

Know what you mean, it does appear that if the sun set's, it's Tuesday and the next Friday is a 9th date - it goes weird. My view is that, if you press a button to turn something on and then press it again to turn it off it should be in a state as befire you pressed it originally (am I getting too deep????)

But the screen button sure works well! Not really impressed with the climate control.

Either yours or mine is fooked then..

Cause my aircon only comes on while the demist is on, or when the outside temp is generally above the inside temp ive set.

I always assumed that the AC was on unless I turned it off manually, but in the cold this morning everytime I pressed 'Auto' the AC would switch OFF. Had the car less that 2months so not really sure how it operates in the winter yet.
