182 Electronic Stability Program

Just been trying to make sense of the 182 manual. Is the ESP activated all the time? If you press the button and the light comes on, on the dash does that meen its de-activated?

No the esp is on from ignition, the switch deactivates the ESP system (and not abs as somepeople think) and it will NOT reactivate like the megane RS does.

I thought it would already be on... Do 182 people drive with it off... Now that I know Im going to go out and see if I can tell the difference.

surely you only want it off if youre on a track and want to squeeze the maximum oiut of the car without the computer spoiling your sideways fun. or perhaps if your trying for a good launch at the lights.

round town leave it on man... unless you want to impress the girls at macdonalds with a sexy wheelspin. probably end up running over a litttle kid or something - then youd feel like a right tit.

i drive with it off sometimes, no wheel spinning ;) and the car seems to pull better from lower down the revs and a smoother dilivery also, with not such BIG kick when it come on cam round the 5k mark

I think the car feels much better with it off... And NO I aint doing no wheel spins out side McDs, Id rather save the tred on mi tyres thank you. The car feels much more responsive... Dont know if its just me but the car also feels like its pushing harder...

In the maual it says "This system helps limit skidding on drive wheels and to control the vehicle when pulling away or accelerating. The system also adjusts the engine speed to the grip available under the wheels, independently of the action exerted on the accelerator pedal". This to me is saying the ESP will not let you drive as fast as the car is intended... Surley if your pushing the car at speed then there is less grip meening the ESP will slow doen the car...

The Cup doesnt have ESP, your right foot does that job. Ive never had any moment in my 9months with the Cup when ive thought, man i wish id had ESP on then.

are you sure its not all in your mind? its only active under extreme conditions i.e when the light is active on the dash and unless your pushing it that wont happen.

in otherwords turning it off makes no difference to performance or normal driving.

If you read the manual on ESP and traction control it does do more than you think... The ESP is active all the time... If the light is on it meens it is not active. If its on with the service light it means its fooked.

ESP only steps im when your in trouble, or one of the wheels is spining. When it steps in to help out, the light will flash on the dash, indicating its stepped in. As iceblue182 says, its probably in your mind, the ESP will only come on if your really thrashing it, not in usual day to day driving.

i drove around spa with ESP on and it was fine, didnt intrude hardly ever. I was still lapping pretty fast but you get used to driving with one or the other.

Some people prefer to drive with it on some with it off. When I turn it off the car is definitely quicker off the mark and the power delivery is smoother with less of a kick when the cam comes on.

I tried trackdays with it on and with it off and I can happily drive round a track either way, it really isnt that intrusive once you are off the mark. When you try and pull away hard from a standstill though it really does hamper you pretty much everytime, even when the light isnt on it is still working though.
